Our dyson vacuum that I bought for my mom as a mother's day gift has buggered out on us on the first use.

First a piece of the brushbar broke off, and now it makes this loud ratcheting noise, which according to the owner's manual means our carpet has come loose from the floor. Well that's fine and all but now when your vacuuming along it'll make this really good awful AAAAACCKKKAAAAAA noise that scares the crap out of you, and it vibrates more than usual when it makes this noise.

We are tempted to box it up and return it, but we will see if we can resolve it first.

We have take the spaceplate off and checked to make sure nothing was obstructing the suction hole, and made sure nothing was hung in the brushbar. We have removed all particles and have ensured there is nothing stuck in there, but it still makes this noise.

Has anyone encountered this before with a dyson?

Have a similar model and what u are explaining sounds like it is a faulty one and my advice would be take it back since u still have it under warranty. Mine is a two year warranty. Mine make a normal noise but not like the way ur describing urs definitely something amiss with the motor by the sound of it.

Wouldn't bother me if my old Whirlpool canister vac sounded like a freight train as long as it gets the job done!....But I'm totally deaf....My dog runs and hides whenever I bring it out....

But yeah, I'd take it back and have it replaced or checked out. Never owned a Dyson....and a little big off topic here....the next time I move, I'm gonna have hardwood floors! So sick of carpet.

Nope...I've wanted one...the one with pet (purple one) but decided not to invest because we are planning get hardwood floor in few years. I dunno when ha! So I ended up bought Bissel one and it is pet one. So it does work fine. :)

Call Dyson company and explain what happen...maybe they can help you? I dunno.

We have since contacted Dyson via Internet and we will check this evening to see if we have a response. It is under warranty and will remain under warranty for up to 5 years which is good. So if it is faulty we will have to ship it via UPS or FedDex to a Dyson center here in the States and they will fix the problem and send it back or they can send us necessary parts and explain how to fix it over the phone. I would call the 1-800 number but I am not good at telephone conversations for the most part, and using IP relay would probably be too cumbersome to do a fix over the phone, so I would have my mom talk to them over the phone and see what. Thankfully I still have the sales slip. If not, I can obtain one from wal-mart if I can give a date of purchase and the fact that I paid using my debit card.

I copy/paste this post to my friend (who has Dyson) and she said she doesn't have any of that noise... She would return in since it's new and you have warranty ;)

If you ask more questions, just PM me and I could always check with my friend if she's able to help further... :D

Thanks JamileLynn. We will wait on Dyson's response and see what from there. Hopefully we won't have to ship the thing because that's going to be costly.

I have a Rainbow System but always wondered if the Dyson's that look like a big yellow ball really glide so easy and do a good job.

My friend loves it, I don't... I think everybody is ought to check it out in the store and judge for themselves ;)

I always herd good things about Dyson which is why I purchased it. I think more than likely Wal-Mart is selling refurbished Dysons, and the next time I want a Dyson, I will order it straight from the factory - this way I know I'm getting a good product and not a dud.

Oh I am so jealous! I want a rainbow system! They are the best! With my allergies and the water catches all the dust! A lady I used to clean for had one. I will see if I can invest in one of those.
