OK..So I get up this morning at the Rehab Facility I have been in and out of now for the past 6 months (I'm not Counting actual hospitals or Trauma centers) and I am happy because I am being released finally this Friday to go HOME! yeah...I shower, dress and eat and one of the ladies their also for a brain injury asks if I would push her wheelchair out to the patio, so she could warm in the sun. SMILE, everyone there knows I am deaf so she had her request already written and passed it to me when she sat down for breakfast.
SURE I say..so we finish and off we go. Now this woman is a large woman but doors are auto so I figure no problem. WRONG... I get her outside and apparently she wasn't happy where I left her so she backs up..pushing into me and knocks me off the patio. It's open and like 2 inches laughing, you
know blends in with the grass and there are walking paths. Anyway I fall down and somehow my right knee twisted and after being rushed in to Xray I am told i now have a torn meniscus in my right knee????? I am leaving here Friday if I have to walk home..well hobble now. Has anyone had this will it heal without surgery and if I have( yet another) surgery, how long will it be till I can walk unassisted again...I have been crying all day BUT I am outta here Friday. Info Please......Thanking you in advance.Midnight♥♥♥

Try to let it heal on it's own if you can. I tore mine and had surgery....I regret it to this day.

That's my 2 cents

Well, you know, it varies. Meniscus healing is difficult to obtain at any age, because the bulk of the cartilage has no blood supply and is therefore called "avascular". Most healing in the body is dependent upon a blood supply to initiate healing response, and deliver the cells that contribute to the healing process. So, without surgery, you need to avoid aggravating activities such as squatting and high impact activities. It's going to take time to heal with proper exercise. Healing process varies.. you know. But with surgery, it depend on type of surgery. If a partially torn meniscus was removed - You should be back to full activities within four to six weeks. If a partially torn meniscus was repaired - You should expect four to six months until full recovery.

Actually I misspoke. Judging from my post op results I would rather have lived with the tear that wouldn't heal than what I ended up with. It will hurt pretty bad for a week to ten days but after that you will pro ably find you can live with it.

meniscus tear

Thanks so much for all your advice and good wishes...hmmm..I think I'm leaning toward going home and taking it easy for a few weeks and hope it heals..what about a brace? Yes? No?Peace to you all, I am just so happy to leave here Friday ....Midnight,,♥♥♥
