Tomorrow is my first day back to work after being home with my kids for 10 years. I am going to be working as a substitute teacher. I will sub for K-12, so will range from little kids to seniors in hs.

I am very nervous about how I will be able to interact with the kids - I have asked for a reverse FM loop system, and they are still looking into getting one for me.

Anyone out there that is Deaf or HOH who teaches regular school? After looking on the internet, all I can find is info on teachers for the deaf ... nothing on the teacher being deaf!

Elk Grove, CA

We have several deaf members of AD who teach. Shel90, deafbajagirl, and vallee are the first three that come to mind. And Chase is a retired professor.

I teach at a public school. I have an intepreter with me if I work with hearing kids. Most of the time I work with deaf kids. There are a lot of deaf teachers in public schools across the US.

Good luck with teaching. Let us know how it went. Don't forget to take lots of vitamins! :D

I am deaf and teach in a BiBi program using ASL/English. I worked in a public school program that had a TC program as an aide 10 years ago.

There are many Deaf teachers in California School for the Deaf, Fremont which is in my local and its only 1.5 hours away from your local, Elk Grove.

In mainstream school, i have several friends who are Deaf/HOH teachers to teach in public and universities.
