Gene therapy boosts hope for the deaf

its typical, and we, Deaf should really do something about the the way reporters write 'hope', much like , women or gays pressureing media to say it differently...but urghh even gays and women dont get it fairly either, only blacks so far...have you noticed??

I've often wondered if those "therapeutic miracle" would lead to increase in cancers... If mismanaged in human trials, that is.

they really need to focus on curing REAL serious stuff like Alizheimer's, cancer, multiple severe disabilities .....THEN they can work on hearing loss.

Meh, I am quite happy that they are working on hearing loss/deafness right now.

There is so many researches going on. It is not like they all are focusing on hearing loss only.

Yup, not to mention that some of the research is paid for specifically by people who want advances in hearing loss.

Plus (and I realize most here at AD are working so it doesnt apply here) deafness and hearing loss are very expensive for government when you add up accommodations, education, SSI, SSDI and all of the other benefits. It makes sense that government would want to spend some money to limit those costs.

Yup, most groups for specific causes have their own fundraisers and events to raise money for researches not to mention celebs and businesses that also donate money to various causes.

Not worried with how reporters are wording the research project. I'm sure a lot of people including myself are curious about it. Not that we need to take advantage of them, but we would want to know what is available.

Be thankful that people are researching deafness rather than to ignore them.
