There was a deadly shooting in small town in California killing 5 and herself .. yep, this time it was an ex-employee woman the one that shot others and killed herself.

It seem like the P.O. the only place has had numbers of shooting other than in schools, isn't it so?

So pathetic and sad that they think it's the solution. Ofc, it must be all out of anger.. what else?

I saw this on the news an hour and half ago. They said there's been 19 deaths in P.O related shooting for the past 20 years. So that's less than school shootings. They also said that the former employee/killer has had psychological problems.

So, it's likely anger's not the main cause nor motivation.

Yeah, it's less numbered in the employment than in the schools. Poor kids have to watch out their backs in these days.

I didn't get the word why she was shooting but in most cases it's anger, obv. Say psychologic problems or revenge is "same" as anger or mad to me, however.

In some ways, anger does play into the very acts of what we're seeing here, yet, I believe being all stressed out at the work place such as in the P.O., I have worked a couple of years back a decade ago in a P.O. as a mail-handler...we had a guy, honestly this guy was a mirror reflection of the well known, Kenny Rogers, great guy and good worker, yet, one night he went out to a wooded area and took his own life with a shotgun...from what we know, his brother mentioned it was due to all the stress from work. We've had another incident prior to that as well, and there were ways which supportive groups were trying to initiate, to lessen the amount of stress with all the workers...since there is a fair amount of stress when it comes to meeting deadlines, constantly on the go, etc.,....

It's sad that this ex-employee took the route she did rather seeking what help she may or could have gotten.

My hat's off to all the postal workers everywhere--for their committment and services!!

Yeah true that .. I do have several deaf friends who work there, too. I wonder how they're thinking when they hear something like that.

Probably biting their fingernails more? I'm sure they're greatly concerned and can only wish your friends all the best in being a safe environment. ;)

I think this is sad.

Is there a job that is less stressful?

All jobs should be less stressful.

That would be a nice thing. However, reality has other plans. Workplace violence is not limited to the PO obviously. It can happen anywhere which is the scary part.

Stress from work comes from two places...internal and external. A person has more control over the internal ones (can seek help, join discussion groups and etc...in other words find a way to release this pressure). The external ones are more difficult to negotiate as the employer dictates the work environment.

i watch that news its really crazy and very sins to kill everyone workers its really crazy! that really stupid! :thumbd:

Wow

Does anyone have a link that I can read the story about this?....Please

Deaths in Calif. Shootings Rise to Eight

GOLETA, Calif. - A woman wounded in a rampage by a former postal worker died Wednesday, and investigators said the assailant also killed a former neighbor just before the attack, bringing the death toll to eight.

A former plant worker said the attacker had made racist comments in the past, and at least six of the victims were minorities, but investigators have refused to discuss a motive in the slayings.

The eighth victim, Beverly Graham, 54, was found Tuesday, dead of a gunshot wound to the head, at a Santa Barbara condominium complex where former postal employee Jennifer Sanmarco lived up until a few years ago.

Sheriff's Sgt. Erik Raney said authorities believed Graham's death was "the beginning of this rampage."

A neighbor of Graham's reported hearing a gunshot Monday evening, before Sanmarco went to the mail-processing center.

Sanmarco shot six postal employees to death and committed suicide in what was believed to be the nation's deadliest workplace shooting by a woman. It was also the nation's bloodiest shooting at a postal installation in nearly 20 years.

A postal worker who was shot in the head, Charlotte Colton, 44, died of her wounds Wednesday, said Teresa Rounds, spokeswoman for Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Former plant worker Jeff Tabala recalled that Sanmarco seemed particularly hostile to Asians while working for the Postal Service.

He said all of the dead were minorities: Three were black, one was Chinese-American, one was Hispanic and one was Filipino.

In 2003, Tabala said, he saw sheriff's deputies pull Sanmarco out from under a mail-sorting machine and wheel her away in handcuffs on a mail cart after a disturbance.

She returned several months later but "people started coming to me and saying, 'She's acting erratically,"' Tabala said. "She was screaming. She was saying a lot of racist comments. It was pretty ugly."

Sanmarco was escorted out of the building by management and never returned, Tabala said.

"She seemed to be having conversations and there wasn't anyone around her. She'd be just jabbering away." Tabala said.

Graham's boyfriend, Eddie Blomfield, said Sanmarco would often go outside singing loudly, which led to arguments between the women. Graham's brother Les Graham Jr. said his sister had complained about a woman who "used to come out and rant and rave in front of her building."

Investigators gave no motive for the postal rampage but said Sanmarco had been put on medical leave in 2003 for psychological reasons and had to be removed from the building once.

Authorities in New Mexico, where Sanmarco moved in 2004, also described her increasingly bizarre behavior after she lost her job. Police were contacted about Sanmarco at least twice after she was accused of harassing an office worker and appearing naked at a gas station. She was dressed when officers arrived.

A deputy clerk for the city of Milan, N.M., said Sanmarco applied for a business license in 2004 for a publication called "The Racist Press" that she said she planned to launch.

Aww Thank you sweet Butterflygirl  for the story and link ;)

If they are getting very stressed out from work then they can look for a new job then give the boss 2 weeks notice then go to the new job.

That is the wrong way to use a gun.

There are only 2 ways to use a gun. These are the right way to use a gun.

1. To hunt for deer & meat for animals.

2. To prevent a violent crime ( robbery, rape etc ) from happening in self defense.

Post Office Upper managers should STOP
giving too much unnecessary stresses to these workers
and/or reduce the stresses levels.

Really? what about the customers? They give me most stress than my postmaster and other workers.

From what I unds, this woman is mentally illness and should be on medicine but guess someone who decide to cut her workcomp and remove her from the help and medicine she supposed to take. Now those 6 are dead because of our state government's screw up to change workman comp policy.

Our agency's Vice President Jack Digaetano tells me the reason we have "going postal" in existance is that the postal service does very poorly on mental health care issues.

We had a booth at a post office 'health fair' even they had in the cafeteria and there was absolutely nothing on mental health options and the post office supervisors would be seen barking at employees for visiting the health fair even drag them out of the fair to their stations.

So given this attitude in the postal service, 'going postal' will live on forever.

Then, Post Office should do something to resolve this issue
about how to prevent/reduce any stress especially
from these customers. How ?
