Deaf Heritage Week is April 11-15, and the American School for the Deaf will hold numerous events in honor of deaf heritage.

On Monday April 11 there will be an assembly for all students; Author Donna Maire Merritt will visit the elementary school. Author and Professor Janis Cole will come to ASD from Washington where she is a current faculty member in ASL/Deaf Studies at Gallaudet University. Ms. Cole will give a presentation Monday evening and on Tuesday will meet with elementary students and will offer mini-ASL classes at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Blue Back Square at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

On Wednesday April 13, author Steve Burt will visit the Jr/Sr High school. On Friday, April 15, there will be a special program at 10:30 a.m. honoring the founders of the school, Thomas Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc, as well as community service recognition, one of which will be awarded to Former State Senator and Deputy Treasurer, Jonathan Harris for his many years of friendship and support of ASD.
