American Foxhound Win Best of Best Title

I saw part of the show and I can't understand why poodles are in the nonsporting dogs group. They're hunting dog and used to retrieve ducks because they have a 'soft' bite when picking up the bird .

Good result for the Afghan - but they're always a Judges favourite...
I owned one a few years ago, he was a lovely dog. His Dam won best in class at Crufts some years previously and his Sire was a German pedigree hound. This meant that even though my dog was a pedigree hound he wasn't an "official" pedigree, thus I couldnt show him even if I wanted to.

I was at an animal shelter with a friend and a guy came in to give up his beautiful Samoyed Husky I took the dog before the shelter was able to get her. When I was out with my new dog a woman wanted to bred my dog with her Samoyed Husky because my dog had all the markings of a show dog. My dog had no papers so I was surprises the woman wanted to use my dog , she was fixed and could not have puppies. So if my dog was able to have pups and bred with that woman dog the woman would not been able to call the pups "official" pedigree" . She must had been a back yard dog breeder she was going lies about the pup being
"official" pedigree ".

Yeah, I have a thing about back-yard breeders. I know a couple of registered dog breeders myself but people who just breed dogs for the sake of making a few bucks from the puppies really annoy me.
My Afghan, also was genetically "true" Afghan Hound wasn't a pure breed in the eyes of the Kennel Club - which didn't really bother me, as I didn't want to breed from him, or show him... he was there to be a companion and to watch the house.
Some Dog people are really weird about things like the Pedigree issue.... but I really think they're thinking about how much $$$$ they can make from a dog..... My Wife works at a local Dog Rescue Shelter and she's seen too many worn-out pedigree bitches that have been surrendered having bred 6 or 7 litters just because they're too old to produce any more. I'm no Animal Rights activist but it breaks your heart.. it really does.

Thinking back on that woman wanting to bred a dog with no papers made me think she had to been a back yard breeder. It's an easy way to made money
and I will have to say my dog was the nicest looking Samoyed Husky I ever seen. Yes it's heartbreaking seeing a dog being bred to death then toss out like an old shoe. :(

You can register your dogs to show in the AKC if they come from an approved foreign registry. You just have to provide the foreign registry number. The same goes to other countries allowing an AKC dog to be shown. It's also why you can't show a dog from the Continental Kennel Club, aka ConKC. They are a sham registry, people have registered their cats as dogs with that club.

As far as poodle registry goes, the Non-Sporting (and the Utility in British Kennel Club which the poodles belong) is a catch-all group. Poodles haven't been used to hunt regularly for almost 200 years. The Canadian Kennel Club moved the poodles to Non-Sporting when the miniature poodle was recognized. Even though miniature and toy poodles are the same breed as standard poodles, I don't see anyone hunting with them simply because of size. Note: miniature, standard, and giant schnauzers are actually different breeds with different temperaments. You can get both miniature and standard poodles in one litter, and you can also get toy and miniatures in one litter. You can't with schnauzers. The giant and standards are in the Working Group, miniature is a terrier. The giant and miniature don't do the same job, but the standard can do the big dog's job as well as the small dog's. It could be because the poodle is the same breed for all the sizes, they put it in the non-sporting group to keep the breed together.

Irish Water Spaniel is in that hunting group, and it is nothing but a Poodle variant.

Just watched the show tonight...and of course, along with my Doggie....she enjoyed it as much as I did.
