AMC responds

Dear Chase,

Thank you for taking the time to write us with your concerns about
closed captioning on AMC. Presently, we are working towards closed
captioning all of our films in license. In fact, each month, we attempt
to add a few more titles to the listing of films offered in the “cc”
format. Likewise, we are proud to offer all original programming with
captioning.

Your suggestions and comments are very important to us, and of course
we will consider your recommendation as we plan for future
programming. We appreciate your support of American Movie Classics.

Just a week or so after a few other AD members and I sent letters to AMC, the movies with closed captions on that channel nearly doubled.

I think it makes a difference when we make ourselves heard. Please continue. If you have a favorite program with no CCs, let us know here, so we may join you in asking to see the words.

Well, I dunno if this is much help but I love listening and viewing music videos a lot but most of all of them do not have closed captions. I dunno who to write to.

My sister and I are totally deaf.

The nearest theater showing captioned films is thirty miles away in Oregon’s state capitol. The theater presents four films several times daily, but its captioned feature is only shown once on Wednesday evenings. My sister lives in California with even fewer prospects to see captioned movies.

We are retired to live on pensions and Social Security. As such, we cannot afford premium channels, so American Movie Channel is our greatest opportunity to watch movies.

However, when we look forward to a movie on AMC, many times we are disappointed. There are no closed captions, and we cannot watch.

We notice after a week or so, after being shown many times, the movie
suddenly will have captions, but we never know when.

Why do we deafies have to wait for captioning if they are going to be captioned eventually?
