As this seems to be a common line of posting. I thought I would mention that if you want to practice ASL, meet Deaf and have an excuse for a great vaction then look no futher than DeafNation World Expo. My wife and I attended the 2010 event and it was awesome. Pretty neat walking into just about any hotel, casino, resturant, store on the strip and see people using ASL. Almost like a modern day Martha's Vineyard.
We will be there again this year. Here are a few $$ saving tips.
1. The Mandalay Bay is expensive hotel. consider either Luxor or Excalibur as both are connected to the event location by a free monorail.
2 Most resorts charge a resort fee that can be between $8 to $30/night or more on top of the cost of the room cost. To avoid this stay at a standard hotel. For example we are staying at the Las Vegas Hotel (formally Hilton) with no resort fee. others like travel lodge or any standard motel/hotel do not have resort fees.
3. For about $7 a day you can get an unlimited ride bus pass and cruise up and down the strip on public transportation that is running constantly. there is also a monorail linking many of the hotels LVH included. If you have a vehicle to drive in LV, all self parking at resorts is free. If you use roads parallel to the strip you can get around pretty quick. avoid driving on the strip itself if possible.
4. Use travel sites such as sidestep, hotels.com to book. you can find better deals and earn free travel. For airfares, remember some don't use travel sites. such as southwest.com and Discount Flights and Vacation Packages | Travel Is Our Deal™ | Airfare & Hotel Packages from Allegiant which specializes in very cheap flights to LV from smaller airports nationwide...
