KVIA.com El Paso, Las Cruces - Weather, News, Sports - Albuquerque woman had ties in Santa Fe deaf community

An Albuquerque woman died after she lost control of her vehicle and it rolled several times down an embankment.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Greg Solano says 34-year-old Tanya Gilliam had been driving northbound on State Road 599 (Monday) about two miles from Interstate 25 when the accident occurred.

Solano says Gilliam wasn't wearing a seat belt.

Gilliam's father -- Richard Gilliam -- says his daughter was well-known in the Santa Fe deaf community. He says she had degrees in deaf studies and clinical psychology.

no specs told if she is drove SUV and use mobile phone. Hmmm... I have know Santa Fe area where there are lot of curve roads. Poor her.

I am sorry to hear that Tanya Gilliam who I don't know her has pass away because of the accident, as I have been away from New Mexico for over thirteen Years. There were a lot of deaf people in the Deaf communities in both Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Santa Fe has a deaf school. My hearing sister lives in Santa Fe and I used to live in Albuquerque and always involve with the Deaf community and went to Catholic church with the interpreter mass. I only went up to Santa Fe for special events or go shopping, and somtimes visit the Deaf school. Santa Fe is very crowded and so is Albuquerque. I don't know much about the highway and the interstate that is going on in Santa Fe. I did not know that she was very popular with the Deaf communities in Santa Fe. I am surprise that she did not wear her seat belt which is require by law. Somtimes in New Mexico it is not recommend to have a seat belt. :dunno:
