Hi,

I'll just start by introducing myself: I am a Canadian University student, and I have worked with people with disabilities with my campus Disability Resource Centre. I mainly take lecture notes for those with hearing impairments and other disabilities. I myself am registered as a student with a disability -- however, I do not have a hearing impairment.

I suffer from a seizure disorder and detrimental effects associated with a major head trauma from an accident in which I also fractured my spine. The reason I'm posting on this board -- even though I am not hearing impaired -- is because I have a particularly difficult time waking up. I don't know if this is a feature of the medications that I take, or if it was caused by the head injury. Traditional alarm clocks do not work at all -- I could have 3 of them blaring; the dogs next door barking and everybody in the house awake, and still be in a deep slumber.

My neurologist recommended that I look for an alarm clock designed for the hearing impaired and I have been looking around for one. This is very important to me because I still live at home and I have somebody to wake me up. My greatest fear is not being able to be independent because I just can't wake up in the morning.

So I'm looking for any suggestion as to what others have found to be the most effective, non-audio type of alarm clock, especially from experience. Thank you very much in advance for any suggestions or ideas, I truly appreciate it.

Best regards,
estockand

Hi estockand - sounds like you're a heavy sleeper like me. I use Sonic Boom alarm clock and it serves me well for a few years. If its bed vibrator is not good enough for you, you can buy a more powerful one for about $33. Check it out from Sonic Alert company - click on Product --> Clocks --> scroll all the way down - Super Shaker Bed Vibrator SS 12V.

Hope this helps!

Nah, Why don't you use mini cannon rigged to clock. If alarm goes off. KBLAAMMMM. This would be the fastest and rudest way to wake you up. It can shake ur house or neigbor think it's some kind of terrorist attack. U'll be surrounded by Canadian Red Army ROFL.:giggle:  :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

Mini cannon was used by Deaf 50 or more years ago in farm area. It's alot of responsibilty to keep cannon loaded every day and must be left outside pointing to the wall of the house where the bed located. Bed must be against the wall in order to get maximum thump from cannon. Also annoys neighbor from distance. Old deaf man explain his xperience about it and it was sooooo funny. What if cannon was soaked by rain and gunpowder rendered useless and you'll missed work LOL.

BTW there is a product that have an electric motor w/ metal frame that can be tuck under bed. It vibrate big time. Right now it's hard to find item. It was sold by Harris Communications and other Deaf and Handicapped store back then. You can browse through. My roomate had one. I can feel vib in waterbed coming from other room (my bedroom was next to bathroom in hallway then next to his bedroom amazing!!).

PS: Maybe you should invest Earthquake machine (there are one in San Francisco for anyone who never experience earthquake to feel it LOL) and have it installed in ur bedroom. Man! it's gonna be a big one ROFL

I also have seen a big 120v 1/4 hp motor (typically used for fan or furnace) w/ offset centerfug on shaft. It was bolted to long 2 ft w x 4 ft L x 3/4 in thick wooden plywood board. slide in foot side of bed or if best result, head of bed if you wanted head shaker:dizzy: . This will wake up even heaviest sleeper cuz it vibrate so hard and loud. I wouldn't recommend that cuz it will annoys roomate and neighbors at ur apartment. They're homemade. Not sold elsewhere in website even Ebay. Alarm clock must have 120v 15 amp output socket ready.

Catty:laugh2: :bowlol:
