The Bible Society of South Africa has launched the first Afrikaans Bible for deaf people in South Africa.
The Bible was introduced at the National Institute for the Deaf at Worcester in the Boland. It includes definitions of complex words such as Creation, which are difficult to translate into sign language.
The Bible Society has printed four-thousand bibles so far. More will be printed on demand to cater for the the estimated 40 000 deaf people who speak Afrikaans.
