Centerfold Lounge Sign On Philips Highway Draws Mixed Reactions
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A bikini bar sign soliciting recent graduates for hire has been quite the talker around Jacksonville.
The sign put up by Centerfold Lounge, a gentlemen's club located just off Philips Highway south of Emerson Street, reads, "Now hiring the graduating class of 2010."
Some people think the bar should take it down, while others think it's just plain funny. And as some people put it, it's just lowering the bar.
They point out that a high school graduate is typically about 18 years old.
"I think it's terrible. I mean really, young people could do a lot better than that," one local said.
"It's a bit of shock and awe," another local resident added. "It's like, 'Wow, that's what our graduates have to look forward to? Go-go dancing and stripping?'"
"I just think it's pretty disgusting you know, because I am an 18-year-old," another local said.

The billboard job posting is William Warner's brainchild. And although he finds it very funny himself, he said it's no joke.
"I mean, look at the economy. We have nothing to offer these grads," said Warner, the lounge's manager. "I do. I have what they can make money. Yes, we're looked at as scum of the Earth, but it's a paycheck -- money that will put food in their stomach and keep a roof over their head.". .
Warner admits it is a publicity stunt, and he hopes it will drive in more customers.
"Yeah, I hope some people will come and say, 'That's funny. Let's check this club out,'" he said.
Some Channel 4 Facebook fans gave their opinions of the sign's message.
"As a 2010 graduate, I find this hilarious," Sharina M. wrote. "It's not offensive at all. They're just offering a job to those in need."
Eden Clark wrote, "If you don't like it, don't look at it."
But Vikki Mioduszewski was on the fence, writing, "I think it's terrible, but also a teensy bit funny."
Warner said he and his staff members are getting mixed reactions.
"It's not profane. It's not obscene," Warner said. "I don't see what's wrong with it."
Although you do have to be 21 to enter the club, you only have to be 18 to work for it.
The club's owner said he'll keep the billboard up for a few more weeks until graduation season is over.
