I have an 8 year old deaf son who is likely ADHD. We have an appointment with his doctor to discuss this further. Does anyone know anything or can give me information on this? I am really trying to find a book about it. I can find books on ADHD, books on deafness, books on ADHD and special needs but I CAN NOT find a book on ADHD and deafness together. does anyone have any suggestions? Or book titles? Thanks!

Nope, I can't think of anything at the moment. Have you tried Googling it?

doctor should have phamplets otherwise church pray help than taking pills

I just learn from my hearing friend tonite that depression should do something fun to cheer up like petting cat, listening music, do something and don't need pills... i have relative who is on pills but never thought of so im gonna ask question to find out why all that happening to her... i have other relative who is ADHD is on medicine but my relative have not take him to church to pray to cure for adhd. prayers cause it miracle if stop worry and not need pills and more joy. it all made sense.

Well bunch of questions. Is your son oral? I do know that among oral deaf kids ADD is a very common dx. In oral schools and mainstream schools it's very common but in schools for the Deaf it isn't as common. Have you looked at alternative dx before medication? (such as breathing issues, or diet issues?) Make sure that your son has a straightforward dx of ADD BEFORE medicating him!

I work with the students who are Deaf and ADHD. Forcing the students' mind to focus on gentle motion helps block out troubles. If they are unable to sit still or don't pay attention, they needs to discpline to behave still. If they are behind the assignments or the homeworks, they need the teacher aide or the tutor. So they can catch up. If they are out of control, they need to take the medicine from the phsycial doctor's authorization and the psychologist's reference. My advise is whatever challenges they have in their lives and face them with a positive attitude and courage.

Good luck!
