A very special delivery
06:36 PM EDT on Friday, August 4, 2006
A Louisville woman who delivers pizzas was in her pajamas when she was rushed in to deliver something more precious than a thin crust with pepperoni and mushrooms.
Alexandra Devine Davis was born about 8:45 a.m. Friday on a bathroom floor. She's fine. So is mom. But there were some hairy moments.
Tiffany Davis is deaf. She was staying at a friend’s apartment when her baby came quickly. Her husband and all of the folks in that apartment are also deaf. They needed help but couldn't communicate with a 911 dispatcher.
Lisa Gibb ran to get her next-door neighbor, Gemma Benton, who can hear and speak.
Moments later, Benton was on the bathroom floor, between Tiffany's legs, phone on her shoulder, getting instructions from the Metro dispatcher to unwrap the umbilical cord from the baby's neck.
In her pajamas, Gemma Benton, Pizza Hut delivery woman, had delivered a child.
“It was amazing,” Benton says.
Alexandra's mom and dad are amazed, too -- with their friend, Gemma.

By the way, The mother happens to be a very good friend of mine. She is doing fine and the newborn daughter is doing fine too. They had their moments and was relieved that everything is okay.
