Heh,

I was looking through my short stories I wrote for a Special writing class at my school that I was in, in the 7th grade. There was 12 kids (including me) in the special writing class, and that class was for my middle school who had great student who is a great writer and I was asked to join. And my short story was presented in a museum along with a picture that was painted by a famous artist. My task was to write a story behind a painting and think what that person's story was. My painting that I chose was a woman in a forest sitting down on a rock looking into a background. So I decided to Call my short story: "An Orphan Maid's Life."
Here it is::

My name is Melissa; I am a 16-year old girl. I am a maid, an orphan maid. I needed money in order to get myself a small house with beautiful gardens. But this nice, rich family was kind enough to give me a job as a maid. The family name was the Johnsons. My boss name is Mr. Robert Johnson. He is a general to the England army. He also works with the King of England too. Mr. Johnson is a very busy person. He always go to meetings with the King, He and his wife gets invited to ballroom dances from the king, and he always practice his skill Outdoors for the war that is coming up. We have a revolutionary war. Mr. Johnson needs to come up with a plan with the colonial, captian, and the other general.
“Melissa.” Mr. Johnson shouted.
“Yes sir?” I replied, walking in the room.
“Can you go and receive my coat please?” Mr. Johnson asked.
“Yes, I’ll go and get it right now sir.” I replied. I walked out of the room and went to the closet to get Mr. Johnson coat. I went back to the room and handed him his coat.
“Anything else sir?” I asked.
“No, that would be all. Thank you” Mr. Johnson replies.
I gave him my curtsies and left the room. I went upstairs to Mrs. Johnson room. But before I could enter, I must knock on the door, if I didn’t knock on the door and barge in, that would be a rude and impolite thing to do. I can also lose my job for that too! I knocked on the door.
“Come in!” Mrs. Johnson said. I entered the room.
“Good Morning Mrs. Johnson, do you need anything?” I asked. Mrs. Johnson was trying to figure out what to wear.
“Could you help me what to wear? I have so many beautiful outfits I have trouble of what to wear!” Mrs. Johnson replies.
“Yes, why don’t you wear the blue dress? It looked very fine on you Mrs. Johnson.” I said.
“The blue dress?” Mrs. Johnson said. She went to the closet to find the blue dress.
“Oh that blue dress! Silly me, I forgotten all about that pretty dress. Excellent choice!” Mrs. Johnson said.
“Thank you. Mr. Johnson had to go to his soldiers because there was a misunderstanding problem. So he went over there to solve this out.” I replied.
“Ok” Mrs. Johnson replied. I gave my curtsies and left the room. I knocked on the door.
“Come in!” Jessica answered. Jessica is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Johnson. I enter her room and I see that Jessica is struggling to get her dress on.
“Do you need any help Miss. Jessica?” I asked.
“Yes please” She replies. I went over to her and help her get dressed.
“There, all dressed” I said.
“Thank you.” Jessica said. I went over to her bed and made up the sheets. Then I went to her dirty clothes and picked them up so they would be washed in the wash room. I left the room and closed the door behind me. I went downstairs to the washroom to get the dirty clothes clean.
“One batch of dirty clothes for you Mrs. Bose” I said. Mrs. Bose chuckled.
“Thank you Melissa, I’ll have this ready for you before lunchtime.” Mrs. Bose replies. I went into the kitchen to make sure breakfast was ready for the Johnson family. “Mr. Reynold, Is breakfast almost ready?” I asked.
“Yes Melissa, Don’t you worry. We’ll have it on the table on time before Mr. Johnson returns.” Mr. Reynold answered.
“Thank you, I’ll go take a 10 minute break at my favorite spot. Come and get me you need to.” I said.
“Al’right. I’ll be here… Cooking” Mr. Reynold said. My favorite spot is sitting on a rock in the forest and smelling the fresh-air. I walked back to the house and help set the table for breakfast. Mr. Johnson returned from his army and Mrs. Johnson and their daughter joined breakfast.
“More orange juice for you Miss. Jessica?” I asked.
“Yes please, Thank you.” Jessica answered.
“I have something to say.” Mr. Johnson said.
“Go on, we’re listening.” Mrs. Johnson said.
“I have to go to war in order to help out the generals, colonel and other captains.” Mr. Johnson said.
“When are you leaving?” Mrs. Johnson asked, in shocked.
“Tomorrow. I just found out today. And Melissa?” Mr. Johnson asked.
“Yes sir?” I answered.
“While I am away, I expect you to keep my family in order and safe. But you will have to do your job as a maid as well to.” Mr. Johnson replies.
“Yes sir.” I answered.
“I am counting on you ok?” Mr. Johnson said.
“Ok, but don’t worry, your family is in good hands.” I said. Mr. Johnson smiled.
Jessica sat there in silence in her chair. So I tried to make things happy.
“Hi Jessica.” I said
“Hi.” Jessica replied quietly.
“Maybe when your father is gone, we can play if i have the time ok?” I said. Jessica face gleamed up.
“Ok!” Jessica said happily.
“Thank you.” Mrs. Johnson said.
“You’re welcome” I replied.

The next day Mr. Johnson was getting ready to leave for war. But I know that Mrs. Johnson and Jessica will be anxious for his return home. Mrs. Johnson and Jessica waited at the entrance of the front door to say good-bye to Mr. Johnson.
“Listen to your mother and Melissa Ok?” Mr. Johnson said to Jessica.
“Ok” Jessica replied.
“Bye” Mr. Johnson said to his wife.
“Bye” Mrs. Johnson replied, hugging him.
“Melissa, you know what to do.” Mr. Johnson said.
“Yes sir.” I replied. I watched Mr. Johnson get into his carriage. He looked out to his window and waved good-bye. Jessica and Mrs. Johnson standed there until he was far away and couldn’t see him. And everything was in slow motion. A few years later Jessica became older and we became the best of friends. Mr. Johnson had been writing to us often to keep in touch with us. Oh and Mrs. Johnson been getting lots of new dresses to keep up with the fashion, ha.
“Melissa?” Jessica said.
“Yes?” I replied.
“Have you seen my diary?” Jessica asked.
“It’s under your pillow on your bed.” I answered.
“Thank you.” Jessica replied.
As I walk downstairs I hear a knock on the door. I go and answer it.
“Letter to the Johnson family” The post man said. I retrieve it.
“Thank you” I said and closed the door. I looked on the address where it was being sent from. I got excited and ran upstairs to give the letter to Mrs. Johnson. I knocked on her door.
“Come in” Mrs. Johnson called. I entered her room.
“Mrs. Johnson! The letter arrived from the battlefield!” I said excited. I handed her the letter. Mrs. Johnson quickly retrieved it and opened the letter very slowly and carefully. As she read the letter something happy happened.
“Robert is coming home! But he is wounded in his left leg from the battle field. He’s coming home!” Mrs. Johnson said happily. She ran to me and hugged me real tight. I ran to Jessica room but knocked first.
“Come in” Jessica said. I entered her room, I see her writing in her diary.
“Something wonderful happened Jessica.” I said, smiling.
“What” Jessica said, she looked up and looked nervous about what i am going to say.
“Your father is coming home!” I answered.
“He is?!” Jessica said. She put her diary on her bed and got up and walked to me.
“Yes!” I said. Jessica started squealing and jumping up and down.
“But I should tell you that he is wounded in his left leg. So be careful around him when he comes home.” I said.
“Ok” Jessica said, Hyper about her father coming home. Jessica ran into her mother room to read the letter. I sighed and smiled. I went downstairs to everyone that is working for Mr. & Mrs. Johnson that Mr. Johnson is coming home. I walked to my favorite spot and relaxed that everything was fine.
The next day everybody was rushing to make the house all perfect and cleaned for Mr. Johnson arrival. I go up to Jessica room.
“Knock-knock.” I said.
“Hi.” Jessica said, looking out in the window.
“Nervous about seeing your father?” I asked.
“Not really, well nervous and excited.” Jessica replied.
“Don’t worry. He will be happy to see you, all grown up and 14 years old.” I said.
“Don’t forget mature too.” Jessica said.
I laughed.
“Yes, mature too.”
“Father’s here!” Jessica gasped. She ran out of her room.
“Mother! Father is here!” Jessica shouted.
“Oh thank goodness!” Mrs. Johnson said.
The door opened and there is Mr. Johnson.
“Father!” Jessica shouted. Mr. Johnson opened his arms and hugged Jessica tightly.
“Look how tall you grown! You look older now!” Mr. Johnson said
“I’m 14 fathers” Jessica replied.
“Welcome home Robert.” Mrs. Johnson said. Mrs. Johnson walked over to him and gave him a hug. Plus a kiss on the cheek.
“Ew! Get a room!” Jessica said. I smiled.
“Here” Mr. Johnson said to me. He handed me a check of $10,000 dollars.
“What’s this?” I asked
“Money, for your house” Mr. Johnson replied.
“I wanted to give you something to show you thank you for helping my family while I was gone”
“I don’t need the money; Use it to put Jessica in collage. Education comes first you know.” I replied. I handed him the check. Mr. Johnson sighed.
“Very well” Mr. Johnson said.
“You mean… You are staying?” Jessica asked.
“Yes. I’m staying.” I said, smiled. Nobody ever knows when something exciting will happen in life. All I know is…
I had mine.
