A real love for dog...

Sounds pretty drastic...but never underestimate the love for your doggie!....Mine goes with me everywhere...and I was gonna visit my sister in another state...she explained she had a "cat" and her Cat hated dogs...and asked me to leave my Doggie at home.....I said no way, Jose!....Having to be seperated from my doggie for a few weeks due to a hospitalization was pure torture....she would not eat and cried the whole time, sitting by the doorway waiting for me to come home...how LOYAL is that?....

my sister came to my wedding without her husband being there because they did not want to leave their dog in other state. hotel don't allow a pet. I wasn't mad but wish the hotels accept pets.

only one cure people, get a cat

People have the right to have dog if they wish and to travel with them or keep them in their homes without fear of wack jobs trying to harm them. The fact that you don't happen to like dogs isn't an excuse to make laws that discriminate against their owners.

There should be more people like him to stand up against a stupid law.

Yeah, I wish there were more Buechrles in the world. Maybe when he retires from baseball, he can be a full time spokesperson for Pit Bulls and other designated BSL dogs.

I travel a lot and I often have to leave my rottweiler home. I feel sad when I am not with him. Yeah, they are loyal!!!

Animals often provide the unconditional love most people or families don't give. They're equally deserving of protection from stupid laws, created by people uneducated of particular breeds, who buy into mass hysteria.

No one has the right to decide what a "banned" dog is to discriminate against people who love the breed. It’s no shock that the breeds that fall in this group are Pit Bulls, Rotties and other so called "dangerous" dogs. How these animals fall into this category is ignorant people, who don’t bother to research much, get together to establish laws to discriminate against people who own dogs they essentially don't like. This is really what it boils down to. People don't give a damn when they read of a pit bull that saves their family...twice from a house fire, they don't care when a pit bull saves a child when lost in the wood – that doesn’t fit into the mindset they’re working to create; they just want to kill the breed because they don't think it deserves to exist. No one has the right. The laws are stupid because they extend to killing off service dogs and any non-violent animal that just happens to be on this hit list….and make no mistake about it, they want the breeds killed off.

Go after the losers that raise aggressive dogs...

banning dogs only makes people who have bad intents with them, to go to other "breeds" or other activities, and leads to stereotyping. It doesn't get to the root of the problem - which is people who do not know enough about what they're doing, and then other people who are truly malicious and have no business being responsible for another life.

Banning "Pit Bulls" is ridiculous because they're not technically a breed and most people - including ACO/humane officers/veterinarians and other animal-related authorities - actually cannot identify a true "pit bull" vs. an American Bulldog and other somewhat similar <but not the same at all> dogs.

Pit Bulls in particular have a stellar record of passing the American Temperament Test Society guidelines <series of tests showing safety and good manners around people/other environments> - a higher pass rate than many other dogs people consider "safe" or "good family dogs", such as the Golden, the Collie or Beagle.

well, in NZ, Putbulls is about different it IS owned by the wrong sort of people!, gangs and tough hoons...

 Lau and Grummer,

here in U.S., sadly Pitties are often involved with gang/drug activities - but the dogs themselves as a group are not malicious or inherently dangerous. Some people who involved in gangs - and some who aren't, but who want to portray a "tough" or "urban" image - additionally do things like use heavy chains, spike-y gear, crop ears <including mutilating home crops> . They also do this because they want to blend into their environment and earn status. But all this feeds into the media and public fear about the type of dog.

And- dogs used for image/guards, often end up on chains. Being continually tied out without appropriate opportunities for interaction and being at the mercy of children and other animals, leads to stress and arousal behaviors in dogs, which can lead to various types of aggression, that you would not necessarily see if the dogs were not constantly or routinely tied.
