A couple days ago a tornado ripped through the St. Louis airport and caused considerable damage to homes in the city. I have spoken to friends via email, and they reported seeing a green sky just before it hit, about how it sounded like a runaway train, etc. I also spoke to friends on the west coast and on the east coast, and they expressed their gratitude in not living in "tornado alley,'" that they need not worry about tornadoes. Well, I got bad news for them.

60-Year Data: Tornadoes a Major Threat Beyond Tornado Alley

I just thought this interesting.

Tornadoes can happen anywhere it's just that the threat of them happening outside of the 'Tornado Alley' is highly unlikely. I do believe they had an unexpected tornado in Denver, CO a couple of years ago. I have considered one day moving to Alaska or something where the worst weather threat is blizzards. These tornadoes are getting old....

Even Salt lake city had a tornado ripped thru downtown area.

Ah, well I live in the middle of Tornado Alley. Luckily my home or possessions haven't been hit yet. :fingersx:

In the middle of winter (I forget when, December or January) a tornado touched down and ripped three large trees from their roots less than 100 feet from my house. Close call.

I noticed that the tornados are creeping up to this part of the country lately.

We have large trees and have had branches the size of trees come down in ice storms.

Just part of the joy of Midwest living!

Same here and we've been under tornado warnings more often than not in the last 2-3 weeks. I'm SOOOOOOO looking forward to my iPhone purchase next week so I can get weather alerts right on my phone while I'm at the farm. It's scary not knowing if I'm about to get hit or not. Right now I've been having friends text me if a warning is dropped for my county and if it's headed towards the farm. I keep my phone on me at all times.

Now we are dealing with catastrophic flooding in certain areas. I think I need to call Noah and have him build me an Ark.

Yep, we got the best of all worlds!

Yup - dealt with that during the 2000 Ice Storm that shut down much of Arkansas. We were without power for 4 days. I remember having to help my dad cut large branches off of fallen trees to clear the driveway, he called me a loser and a wimp for going back into the house because I was shivering, cold and wet and it was 20 below for the high. I just said 'whatever' and walked back up to the house to get warm and dry. He never got all the branches cut and we couldn't even use our driveway for a week because it was nothing but ice until it warmed back up.

You are of hardy stock. I bet you could whip a New York gal while fending off a pack of wildcats. ;)

What my dad didn't take into consideration is the fact that he's 5'7" and 300+ pounds and at the time I was 5'4" and 110 pounds. Big difference in body mass which also means I had a lesser tolerance to the cold than he did/does.

Now I'm 5'6 and 150 pounds (and looking to shed another 10 to 15 pounds.

That is understandable. I'm almost six feet tall and 210 pounds, and I rarely wore a coat outside in winter. :)

I disagree. Fat on a humanis not efficent to stay warm. My gf is a big girl, yet gets cold very easy.

She probably has thyroid problems. I speak from experience.

Nope. Shes been that way since her childhood. She already had bloodwork and a check up, no health problems which baffled the doctor.

Kind of like what happened with me. The summer I turned 13, I gained like 80 pounds. I did not increase my eating and did not stop being active. That was my best year on Miss America Softball team. I played from ages 8-15. Still have weight issues and can't seem to lose much. Doctor just did a massive round of blood work and such, everything is normal and fine and he can't explain the weight. He had me keep a food diary for a month and an activity log. It seems I do burn more calories than I take in, but the weight does not come off. Ah well, at least hubby likes me the way I am.

I know recently (in the last year) Robertsville, MO got hit really hard with a tornado, but then again, Florida is beginning to get a lot of them as well.

My TX home is trying to dodge wildfires and tornados. They had another warning today about 2 I think. I got a text that the sirens were going off. They had bad hail last week to but everything has been to bad for anyone to go check the damage.
