18 years’ jail for raping mute girl
A special education teacher was jailed 36 years and ordered to be caned 10 times for raping a 12-year deaf and mute student three years ago.
Sessions Court Judge Ravinthran Paramaguru imposed the sentence on Shahmirul Salleh, 34, a teacher of the Tuaran Special Education Primary School.
He found Shahmirul guilty of raping the girl at the teacher’s quarters of the school between March 1 and March 31, 2003 and again at the same place between Nov 1 and Nov 30, 2003.
