What do you do for living?

Yep that's NTID- National Technical Institute for the Deaf. They are connected to Rochester Institute of Technology. They're still going strong. I wonder if NTID and Gallaudet still do the NTID/Gally battle thing (for the life of me I can't remember what that whole day is called. They do all...

    Left handers

Yep- just let him learn- most of the time if a person is naturally left handed they will naturally use that as the dominant hand to sign. Some might not. My father is a lefty but some things he cannot do left handed no matter how hard he tries. He actually does sign with his right hand (he's...

    Hi, an returning member here

hello  FSDB? One of my friends worked there for a couple of years - 3 maybe- in the late 90s.

    What if......

Fairly sure some may have passed away over the years (I know Botts did). No way on the banned folks! I've been busy with life... suffering with my job. Work is a LOT lighter now unfortunately- left with 2 smaller accounts and one middling size (for now...) so reduction in staff in my...

Best city/town for a Deaf person to live in?

Wow... I have a friend who lives in/near St. Charles (hearing woman)... haven't heard great things about that city...

Coding and web development group on FB

The group is probably deleted as the original post was in 2019- a year ago... too bad... was interested in joining.

    Coming back

*Pokes head in*. Welcome back :) And didn't realize your wife is now an ex... Good to see you :) I've been kind of absent myself lately... usually too tired to do anything thanks to this stupid job (and I'm an 'essential employee' apparently (the whole group is)... and can't work from home...

What are you thinking about? Part VIII

that's the average of all the reviews. If you look further down on the page of the product you'll see a breakdown of how many people gave it 5, 4, 3, 2, or 1 star. for example-- https://www.amazon.com/Sonic-Alert-SB1000SS-Alarm-Clock/dp/B000EX9K40 Scroll to the bottom til you see Customer...

What are you thinking about? Part VIII

I hope so.. I was a bit shocked at the percentage of 1 star on Amazon (it's a bit cheaper there than on Harris Communications :/). And thanks- that's exactly what I want. Those newer 'sunrise simulation' type alarm clocks I don't think will do it, nor the ones that have flashing dots on the...

What are you thinking about? Part VIII

I'll check into that. I never did go much further in finding other ways to do calls without Relay- or rather calls using TTY. Still work on people to convince 'em to use email rather than calling lol.

What are you doing right now? Part II

Sounds a little like tinnitus maybe? Hopefully its nothing more than that, or an actual sound around the house... but if it does get to where it's bothering you have a doctor check out inside your ear.

What are you thinking about? Part VIII

I think when Sonic Alert first started producing them, they were the only ones with the bed shaker? Though when I was in college I had a BIG blue bed shaker that I could plug into a Radio Shack digital clock. Thing was LOUD (according to my first roommate at NSP). That's long gone. I see a...

What are you thinking about? Part VIII

Thinking about getting a new alarm clock... my 18 year old Sonic Boom one seems to be flaking out on me. Seeing a lot of bad reviews for the newer Sonic Boom one (and it's only in white! boo)...and I can't find many that will allow for a lamp plug in (I'm not a fan of the bed shaker type...

Which AD'er are you wondering about?

Work... too much 'required overtime' (at least we don't have to do the 6 day workweek anymore). Plus it's a physically demanding job (I've lost 20 lbs in the last 18 months- most of it in the last 9-10 months). No it's not a job I want to stay at- it feels so "underemployed" to me- but...

    TTY and macs

I do have access to a landline but the phones these days will not sit well in/on the couplers on the ttys I have so that's out (unless there's still a rotary/push button phone lurking around here somewhere). I did check out eBay to see if there were any compact/C ttys listed... none so far...

hearing aids not accepted in the Deaf community 20 years ago?!?!?

Today and 20 years ago are miles different... And.. yes there were quite a few D/deaf at Gallaudet 30-35 years ago who were no fans of hearing aids at all. Many refused to wear them; had one friend who grew up oral...came to Gallaudet and pretty much refused to wear her aids again; they...

Sonic Bomb Alarm Clock - Questions....

I still have the old model with green led light... I love it.... still works but finicky on some days (it's 17 years old). I never thought to turn it around but what I do is put a thick paper (actually an envelope (mail that I never opened lol) over the display- blocks out most of the light (I...

Does Gallaudet have a pre-medical program?

Hmm as far as I know I don't think they do. They do have science majors like biology and chemistry. A relative of mine has a BS in Public Health (or something like that I can't remember right now) and is currently in their first year of med school (person is not deaf though).
