    Bilateral Cochlear Implantation

Hello Tracy, thank you for your response! I value your perspective significantly, but after performing a harsh research on future developments for cochlear implants. I have noticed that both companies, Advanced Bionics and CochlearTM have officially signed a patent for their future hearing...

    Bilateral Cochlear Implantation

Hello Alldeaf, it has been a while since I last logged in! Some of you might remember me from the thread I posted nearly a year ago about the cochlear implants. I'll brief everything up before starting to discuss about bilateral cochlear implantation. I grew up as a proud deaf person who...

    Hearing aid that recognizes sounds

ONE of the reason why I ditched my hearing aid for a new cochlear implant, is that my hearing aid causes a lot of noises caused by the machines inside (beeping, whistling etc). My hearing aid didn't like my ear, so it whistles and beep every time and my audiologist never seem to figure the...

    Any Competitive Swimmers?

I was the competitive deaf swimmer, and participated at the national levels. I now have CI but I didn't have the CI when I was in the State squad. But I'll tell you a bit of my experinces. I was only 12 when I participated the national competitions and swam against older swimmers and earned...

BecLak, in fact Auslan IS officially recognized as a language for mainstreamed high schools across South East Queensland (Brisbane) and Auslan will become one of the LOTE subject as soon as 2012/2013. You may have few negative experience in mainstreamed environment while I don't. Well, there...

    Mainstreamed vs Deaf-only education

Miss Delectable, just pop in to quick reply your statement about Vic deaf unit enrollment is declining. It may be true, but it is VERY typical. Every 5 or 10 years, on a pattern, deaf student population always go up down up down, naturally. But in Brisbane, we are currently on the stage of...

    Mainstreamed vs Deaf-only education

In that situation, it is true sadly. Language development and acquisitions are so important, and only able to be achieved with sign language. I wasn't born deaf, I was born hearing (according to my newborn hearing test) but Auslan is my first language. That's right, I learnt sign language WAY...

    Mainstreamed vs Deaf-only education

I never mentioned that I am superior than other deaf students however I may be grateful for all of the education I have recieved. So you transferred to Wesley because you couldn't finish Year 11 and Year 12 academically at deaf school? It's okay, it is common. TPS do not provide Year 11 12...

WFD now bans "deaf-mute" and "hearing impaired"

Basically, I think it is deaf people's fault that the word "hearing impaired" sound revolting and bad because of the way we sign it. In Australian Sign Language, how do we say hearing impaired in sign language? Hearing Fail. That how we sign it. So all deaf people suddenly compain about the...

Cochlear Implant [Advices, Discussions or whatever]

It is nearly a month since when my cochlear implant was switched on. I totally love my implants, I would just put it on my left ear and hear everything every day and after. I am really excited to go to the speech therapies. Everything is so perfect, my brain is so flexible and adapted very well...

Cochlear Implant [Advices, Discussions or whatever]

No, I got the Freedom cochlear implant with N5 speech processor. I thought that it is most logical way to get the Freedom implant and N5 processor because freedom implant is better than N5 implant while N5 speech processor is better than Freedom processor. :)

Cochlear Implant [Advices, Discussions or whatever]

Hello guys! I am the same person who posted that thread. I am sure that most of you are wondering over what is happening to me so far. I was implanted in November 21st by Anthony Parker under NSU Brisbane Cochlear Implant Centre and was switched on only six days ago (December 5th). To tell you...

Cochlear Implant [Advices, Discussions or whatever]

Well, I'll just sum everything up about me - I was born hearing, but was deafened when I was baby. My whole family pointed out that cochlear implant would be a solution and a "cure" for my deafness. But my mother, who is a coda herself refused to go ahead with an implantation. My first language...
