Hi, I'm a relay operator and I'm new here.

Actually, a lot of towing companies, restaurants, newspapers, banks and yes, even Western union refuse to accept relay calls because everytime they do accept the call, it ends up being a scam. I swear, most of our calls are fraud calls. :( It makes it hard for real deaf people to use the service...

Hi, I'm a relay operator and I'm new here.

So you don't use the relay service?

Hi, I'm a relay operator and I'm new here.

I believe some people use pen and paper when there's no interpreter available. Of course, I wouldn't be too sure since I'm not actually deaf but that's what most of my deaf callers do.

Hi, I'm a relay operator and I'm new here.

I hope the government moves to have this done as soon as possible. The scams aren't getting any fewer! Lots of people get scammed each day. It's really sad when we can't do anything about it and the government's not moving fast enough to eradicate them as well. :(

I'm a relay operator. Do you have any questions for me?

Wow! That's good then. I just hope they enforce that policy really well.

I'm a relay operator. Do you have any questions for me?

I don't get it. Sorry. Not so familiar with VRS.

I'm a relay operator. Do you have any questions for me?

Maybe you guys can find someone powerful enough to make this kind of registration policy.. someone that can talk to our government and let them see its advantages.

Hi, I'm a relay operator and I'm new here.

Haha! Yeah, that's one advantage. Sometimes you just wanna make phone calls and not let the world see how you look like early in the morning.

Hi, I'm a relay operator and I'm new here.

Oh, yeah.. sometimes. Like when the deaf person suddenly says bad/mean words towards a very friendly called party.. It makes me feel uncomfortable. But it's part of the job so I just get used to it.

I'm a relay operator. Do you have any questions for me?

Yup.. and a proof of disability. But I guess the government doesn't have the power or is too lazy to do it? :P

Hi, I'm a relay operator and I'm new here.

By uncomfortable, what exactly do you mean?

Hi, I'm a relay operator and I'm new here.

Yup.. and when sex calls are legit, we don't feel abused or anything.. because they don't have the intention of making the relay operator sound stupid or something.

I'm a relay operator. Do you have any questions for me?

Nope, we don't record entire conversations. The duration and the time of the calls received are the only ones recorded for billing purposes. We have a confidentiality agreement and it is against our policy to keep track of the personal details of our callers.

I'm a relay operator. Do you have any questions for me?

Yup. You're correct. Most users are required to register however the registration process can be accomplished by anyone, even fraudsters just by making up a fake name and/or address. The government needs to have a better registration process.

Hi, I'm a relay operator and I'm new here.

Yup yup. There are legitimate sex calls, actually. We have set criteria to identify which sex calls are legitimate (of course, I can't disclose that for confidentiality reasons) but we make sure we don't discriminate calls from legitimate users. :P

Hi, I'm a relay operator and I'm new here.

I bet VRS would be easier. Unfortunately for me, I don't know much sign language so I can't be a video relay interpreter. :P
  17. Peyton Sawyer

Hi, I'm a relay operator and I'm new here.

There was an effort to register relay users. Unfortunately, the registration didn't help much because the FCC only asked for a few details such as a physical address and email. Fraudsters can easily provide that. There wasn't much effort on the FCC's part to double check these addresses and...

Hi, I'm a relay operator and I'm new here.

It is, however, an abuse of the relay service. The service is actually intended for people who are deaf that have legitimate calls to make. A call, when proven to be a prank, is immediately passed on to our supervisor and more likely than not, such a call is terminated. :P
  19. Peyton Sawyer

I'm a relay operator. Do you have any questions for me?

Well, yeah.. there's a smaller chance for fraudsters to infiltrate the video relay community since they make use of sign language and the people who use the service are easily "seen" and traced. That's the best and worst part of text relay.. It can be used by anyone who has access to the...
