    Captioning at colleges

I'm a bit different than most. I still have a fair amount of residual hearing, and as long as nobody else is talking, I can hear the professor, and ask questions quite clearly. However, CART is awesome as a supplement, so I can make sure I don't miss a thing that is said.

I intend fully to do that, but I was wondering if anyone had the explicite experience at that particular college.

    Captioning at colleges

Hi, I am at that time in my life where I'm applying for colleges. One of the colleges I applied at, and got into was UC Riverside. They have examples of their disability services here...

    Waterproof hearing aids

Hey guys, sorry for such a delay. My problem is that sailing is a very communicative sport, which means I need to be able to talk to other people in other boats. When I capsize or get sprayed from the waves, my head usually won't go underwater, so those Siemens would be amazing if they would...

    Waterproof hearing aids

djchur: :( They have waterproof CIs, why not hearing aids? Why must we be at the mercy of the hearing aid manufacturer? They charge way too much, the innovation is much further behind than the latest technology. It feels that these people know that we are desperate and they take advantage of...

    Grammar

My previous post refers to several deaf people I have met, and those in this thread. My reasoning for this is that deaf people shun me for working so hard to integrate in the hearing culture. That is it.

    Being deaf is

My request of your personal definition between big D and little d still stands. However, since you directly requested such, I will give you mine. The lines are fairly simple, almost black and white in my opinion. Big D: Deaf culture, sign language, shunning everyone hearing. Psychological...

    Grammar

I don't consider myself to have perfect grammar. I am genuinely curious about such things. I don't claim to know sign language. I am interested to see why it is harder for some people than others. If you want to play the "You don't know how it is" card, that's fine. Go ahead. My focal point of...

    Grammar

This topic has been beaten to hell and back, I'm sure. I also fully expect to get flamed like never before. Having said that, let me begin. Many people who have a congenital deafness of a substantial amount do not achieve a full integration in the oral society. If they are able to communicate...

    Waterproof hearing aids

kokonut: I appreciate the link, but my hearing loss is severe-profound in my good ear. I need something with enough power for that. I'd also prefer to shy away from surgery. iowaboy: Heh, I wish I could do so, but since I sail small dinghys in a competitive environment, doing so would slow me...

drphil: I consider myself HOH. I have a hearing loss of 75 DB in my left ear, 95 DB in my right ear. I have hearing aids. Let me tell you what I have done: I have gone to a HEARING high school, taken Honors and AP ENGLISH classes. I have gotten a 5 on the AP test for English. I have a better...

    Waterproof hearing aids

Hi, so as told by my name, I sail. I mostly sail dinghys such as CFJs and c420s, and since sailing is a sport that requires a ton of communication as well as being able to hear the start signals, I generally leave my hearing aids in. Unfortunately, these boats are highly unstable and capsize...

It's spelled wrong for a very specific reason. I'll get into why that is later but that's a story for another time ;-)

Time for a bit of bragging xD

Hey guys. I'm a profoundly deaf teenager in high school atm, and I thought I'd share a slice of life. Who knows, someone may find it inspirational. First, a little backstory: No one in my family (save for a distant uncle who is moderately deaf) has any hearing problems. My mother hypothesizes...
