    Will my voice change?

Wow, what a number of responses on this topic! Super helpful for me. My deafness has been gradual since elementary school. Just recently I have noticed my words get jumbled and unclear at times. I do take my aids off in the evening and weekend. And I am signing often, but not all the time...

    Airports!! I hate them.

Yes, that happened to me, too! Ugh.

    Airports!! I hate them.

I have practice in this area, unfortunately. I don't know where you live, but I am in the US. I can't hear at airports either, most of the time. Too noisy and the announcements are all auditory, no visual announcement. I have complained about this on deaf ears several times. I find that if...

    Looking for ASL Practice

I found the local deafies from emailing an ASL teacher at a nearby college. He gave me several contacts for three different local groups. They need monthly. Also, you might be able to find them at a church with an ASL interpreter. Good luck!

    Designing my new tattoo

They always take your pulse, so why not right there?! I hate bracelets and they fall off sometimes anyways.

    Designing my new tattoo

That is actually a creative idea, if you ask me. There are other options people use like ID cards, seat belt covers, etc, but a tat doesn't wash off and it is there with you all the time. Hmmm, I will have to think more about that one;)

Could Someone Give me Advice on Communication Tools for a Hard of Hearing Friend?

Wow, what a good friend:) And nobody has replied to your post yet...I have some ideas for your friend. I have had a progressive hearing loss since I was little. Every year things get quieter, and I mostly like the lesser amount of noise to sift through my days. Communication is like your...

    school experiences, good/bad?

Wow, that is really harsh. I am guessing that they wanted you to use speech and didn't want you to sign? I was bullied for many reasons over the years that were never okay. There were no IEPs back then, but I did sit at the front of the class. I didn't have hearing aids at the time.

Deaf / ASL Content Writer Needed

May I ask who your audience is? Is it for hearing people, I assume? Deaf people already know about those types of things.

My future in employment and being deaf...advice, please.

I have a progressive loss since before the third grade and though I can still navigate the hearing world, I don't want to. I currently work at the school district and love working with teens (did I just say that?!) ;) As one of the perks of working in the school district is the variety of jobs...

How many of you have turned off your voice?

Thank you for you advice:) It confirms what I have experienced as well. May I ask what you do for work? I still have about 10 years left, and it is getting more difficult as the years go on. From my deaf friends, they often mention all you need is a good employer who works around things like...

How many of you have turned off your voice?

I have had a progressive loss since I was small, and have a range of moderate to severe loss, depending on frequency. I recently started calling myself "deaf" because things have taken another turn, and that is fine. I am blessed to have ASL and am working on my deaf contacts and signing...

    Will my voice change?

That is interesting that you mentioned this option, if you get this message since you posted in 2013;) I was just thinking about this very topic myself. I consider at times on the weekend going voice off when I am out and about in town, not at work. However, I tell myself I am a fraud. I...

    Will my voice change?

I still have some hearing, but notice that I don't always enunciate properly. What I hear coming out of my mouth (when I have my aids in) sounds muffled or slurred. It is kind of embarrassing, however, I have to remind myself it is what it is, and I just do the best I can. It is a concern...
