From a person that hates deaf people.

And NOT every deaf/HOH person is dead/HOH because of their genes... I'm not.

    Does CI person need interpreter?

Jillio, I don't believe my implant makes me hearing. I know my implant makes me hear in the 25 db range, which is much more than I ever got with my HA.

    gross fast food stories

Ugh... I got horrid food poisoning from a sausage biscuit at chik fil a once. I lost a lot of weight. I held nothing down for four days, my parents had been trying to get me to visit my sister. When I vomited hour after hour into the fifth day, they realized I needed help... I had a shot up my...

No kidding? We're all in the deaf community, we should be helping each other, not be content with arguing between ourselves.

Cheri, that is my point. We are all entitled to our own opinions... why are we all attacking each other?

    Does CI person need interpreter?

My entire post was not directed at you, jillio. Blindness, loss of limbs, cerebral palsy, ect. are all disabilities that must be accommodated in a world of mostly hearing and fully able bodied people. Deafness is also something that has to be accommodated. Infants cannot make the right...

    Does CI person need interpreter?

The earlier one is implanted with the CI, the more time they have to work with the device. It is not like flipping on a switch three weeks after the surgery. CI's have more success rates if they are given as soon as possible. It's not a rush to make the child more "normal" but it's a rush to...

CI sound quality compared to hearing-aid days

I wear a HA in my left ear and a CI in my right. As I was activated just 7 weeks ago, I can't tell you what CI'ers who've worn theirs for months experience. I can definitely tell a difference in what I'm hearing. Quality isn't so important to me at these early stages, it's all about the volume...

I have a CI in my right ear, and I joined this forum before I was implanted. It disturbs me to read the vehemently anti-CI threads all over this board. The bottom line is CI's are not for every deaf person! Those who have chosen to implant themselves or their children do it because they truly...

    Job Interview

I had a job interview today at a grocery store. I've been in the grocery business since last June. The woman interviewing me asked me how I communicate with customers, I felt that her attitude was insensitive and unfair... My question is do companies have a responsibility towards those with...

    Songs to Listen

I love electronica, industrial, rock... Nine Inch Nails, Incubus, Blaqk Audio, Marilyn Manson (an acquired taste, I have to say...), ect.

Love between hearing and deaf people

I was severely HOH my whole life until I became profoundly deaf at the age of 17. Almost a year later, I'm in love with a wonderful man. I have never dated a deaf boy, mainly because I am not "culturally" deaf. After becoming completely deaf and starting down the road towards my CI, i was...

    CI and HA together (left/right)

I was implanted with the Nucleus Freedom early last December. Right now, I'm wearing both my HA (left) and my CI (right.) Right now I'm getting comprehension with my HA and volume with my CI

    Question for other CI users...

I'm not really into contact sports... I'm more into things like motorcycles, 4wheelers(ATVs), ect. And on that note... if you do things like that, where did you get your helmet that would fit for your CI?

    Question for other CI users...

I was recently implanted and activated with the Nucleus Freedom... I'm a bit of a daredevil and I was wondering, are extreme activities frowned upon for CI users? I'm not sure what the restrictions are...

    Text-Messaging Ban begins Jan 1, 2008...

Agreed. Just because someone can hear doesn't mean they're rude or have a lack of manners for JUST deaf people. If they're rude to you, chances are they're rude to everyone else, regardless of their ability to hear or not. And yes, I am deaf.

    When...

Children get ear molds much more frequently. When I was younger, I'd have to get a new one every four to six months. Now that I'm nearly an adult physically, I have to get a new one every seven or so months. It depends on the material used because my ears are sensitive... we've tried vinyl, ect.

    LTHF - Thank you

Blue Cross BS sucks! They denied me an implant too. We kept appealing but they said no. Then two days after I received the implant, my dad got a letter in the mail. It was the insurance commissioner saying she'd been gone for a month and asking if she could do anything to help us. Pffft.

    One or two?

Exact story for me... Except I stopped wearing my right HA when I was 7 or so. I find it curious that the right ear seems to be a problem for a lot of HOH people or adults that start to lose their hearing at an older age...
