Yes, you should let him know. It is common sense to me that you should not disclose everything about yourself. When I interview people and they start telling me about health and mental problems, it's a big red flag. Not the fact that they have them, but that their not smart enough to keep...

Is it ever ok for kids NOT to use ASL?

I wouldn't expect deaf parent to use spoken lauguage with their kids, but would hope that they would provide them with speech classes.

Is it ever ok for kids NOT to use ASL?

I don't know why. It shouldn't be that way. I feel just as strongly about Deaf children learning oral skills. I think using a hearing aid is more of a personal choice.

Is it ever ok for kids NOT to use ASL?

I don't agree that all children should be give a CI or required to use hearing aids, but I do think they should all learn ASL and have speech, listening, and lipreading therapy. It is giving your child all that you can to prepare them for this world.

Yes. No one can force them, but I think it's only fair to the child. What is it that you are worried about?

Is it ever ok for kids NOT to use ASL?

No. ASL is not going to harm the child. Even if the child is hearing, I think it would be so enriching for them to learn ASL. Also, I would think that if a parent enjoys signing with their child and feels comfortable the child will feel the same.

this is true about private schools  Homeschooling may be ok for some situations, but often it seems like it is a parent is trying to brainwash their child.

    Schools vs. Schools Debate

That makes sense. Everyone has different needs. Sorry you had a hard time in school. I didn't like my public school and would have loved to go to a private school. It's hard to be stuck with the same people for years. There were 87 people in my class.

    Schools vs. Schools Debate

I agree and would prefer to send my child to a public school but, public schools are not to great here so I may go for a private school.
