Phonocentrism and music?
Okay, how about music as reflective of the implicit phonocentrism in our society? CDs, MP3 players, loudspeakers, concerts without interpretation... Can you think of other examples?
I'm doing a presentation on Deaf music/musicians and my instructor thought it would be interesting to include the other side - the view that music is a product of a hearing society, one that has long discriminated against Deaf people.
I'm looking for any references to audism and music - news...
Anyone have any pos/neg reviews of this DVD on ASL grammar? I am searching for a DVD on sentence structure and this is one of the few I could find. If anyone has any recommendations, do post!
ASL Grammatical Aspects DVD: ASL/PSE Grammar & Sentence Structure Products for Deaf, Hard of Hearing...
Can anyone lend a hand translating this into ASL sentence structure?
"Our study group has met twice so far."
Using OSV, is it Twice so far our study group meet?
I wouldn't say I approached her; it's just that we see each other at various events, and most times it's a one-sided hi how are you fine. I have a hard time reading her. Maybe it's deaf culture, maybe she's just not that into me. :-) <shrug>
If you sign Hi, how are you to someone (deaf) and they just reply Fine and don't ask how you are, is that considered rude or just part of deaf culture?
I just saw this in my Deaf studies class. My teacher said that a former student wrote to the parents to find out what had happened in the intervening years, and that they said he had died in an accident. I'm just curious...How did you hear it was suicide?
Yes, ASLPro is good. I was thinking more along the lines of being able to see signs in succession, as in a story that you can play from slow to fast...
Are there any apps out there for improving receptive skills? I use the fingerspelling practise tool on lifeprint.com regularly; is there something like that for signs?
