    Argument/Insult Thread

I figure that because there's an abundance of free-flowing, good-natured information exchanged about hearing aids and cochlear implants in here that it might be fun to try to find something to disagree on. I'm not sure if anyone can think of anything to argue about, but here's your chance to...

Deaf Adoption: A Rhetorician's New Family

Someone please help! I'm feeling a bit down and insecure today and could use an ego boost, some recognition of my parenting skills and a dose of sympathy. Please visit Drew's blog as quickly as possible!

Im New At This Chat Room

It sounds to me like you should establish or re-establish the relationship with your audiologist, set up mappings or mapping checks, start with therapy and just take the initial steps that you were uncomfortable doing right after the sugery. Are you saying that you're using a hearing aid now...

    CI television drama show

Hopefully they do a better job than ABC's "What About Brian"! Their story only glossed over the issue and gave a false impression of how cochlear implants work.

i just started my own blog thanks contradica

Good luck with your blog. It is sometimes hard to keep the posts going, but I am very happy with ours because it keeps our family informed, and many people have let us know privately that it has helped them in some way. I hope yours brings joy to you as well.

    Michelle's Story

And, practically speaking, who would want/be able to sit through a mapping after that surgery? You need to heal up before turn on/mapping, because it's not just like flipping a switch.

    Cochlear implant mends lives

Don't get overly frustrated. I got a bit upset a while back and then I realized that it wasn't worth much of my time to debate the difference between a technical definition of a word vs. a meaning that one may or may not have assigned to that word in conversation, or to debate what "research"...

    Cochlear implant mends lives

I really investigated the different options at the same time. Initially the only contacts we found were involved with deaf schools or the county services which were all in favor of signing that was fine - just the way it was. About the same time we started to investigate the CI and spoke to...

    Cochlear implant mends lives

You didn't direct this question to me, but thought I'd answer with my experience. In Drew's case, the only reason we learned about the CI is that we did our own research. Drew did not pass his newborn hearing screening, and we were given a list of places to call to get a diagnostic test...

    Drew's Activation Day Videos

Some of you know that my son Drew had simultaneous bilateral implants the first week of June, and now he has been activated! For those that might be interested, we have some short video clips up of Drew's activation day and a clip from the next morning where he responds to a drum. The link...

    New poster!

This was Drew's situation. He has a genetic loss, with a very low level of residual hearing. Some parents struggle with the residual hearing issue, in Drew's case that was not a concern.

Michael Moore's Movie "Sicko" Raises Concerns about Insurance Issues

<Groan> I did not cite that person as being impartial. I did not even claim I read that website. All I did was say that there are many websites that advance "what some consider his lies", and gave an example. Irregardless, it doesn't make a bit of difference whether the author of the website...

Michael Moore's Movie "Sicko" Raises Concerns about Insurance Issues

There are many websites that go into deep detail on what some consider his lies. Here is an example concerning Bowling For Columbine: Truth about Bowling for Columbine I find it unfortunate because I am interested in the topics he covers, but I find that I can't appreciate his...

Michael Moore's Movie "Sicko" Raises Concerns about Insurance Issues

Yes. It really doesn't matter to me if bilateral CI's don't compare to "normal" hearing. Any significant gain in abilities that outweigh the varied costs of being implanted means (to me) that the implantation is "good enough". Each person's conclusion will vary, but whether the CI-aided...

Michael Moore's Movie "Sicko" Raises Concerns about Insurance Issues

I am interested in this as well, because my experience is that often people who are not getting what they consider good results with their hearing aids are denied the ability to get a single or bilateral implant, even though they want one/them.

Michael Moore's Movie "Sicko" Raises Concerns about Insurance Issues

I'm going to send you Drew's bilateral approval letter and his explanation of benefits as soon as the latter comes in. Just want to let you know I haven't forgotten.
