Advanced Bionics HiRes90k is back in Europe

Looks like that of all recipients of the implant, only 2 were identified as faulty and caused the voluntary recall. Both patients involved were re-implanted with AB before the recall and are reportedly doing well.

Advanced Bionics HiRes90k is back in Europe

AB is back in Europe, Asia, and Latin America- and it sounds like soon in North America. Advanced Bionics return to the market

Older CI like S-Series or Plautim BTE will be no more 2012.

My daughter has two Harmony processors and is doing well. They're small and simple, and can use the T-mic on the ear hook. Who is asking you to upgrade? The company usually supports older products without requiring and upgrade.

Some babies born deaf aren't deaf after all! Don't rush CI!

It's really interesting that this came up. We corresponded with this Israeli clinic about the "article" while we were having our daughter go through the candidacy process for implants here in the states. His response indicated that the article has been taken out of context. He said he was...

Colored Hearing aids and EARMOLDS? AGE

I'm 30 something and I wear bugs bunny ties at work. Do what makes you happy! Go for the color!

They were wrong...my son is hearing.

We saw multiple audiologists and paid out of pocket for additional ABRs and booth testing, behavioral, OAEs. Only when every test had been repeated at least three times with the same exact results over the course of a year were we comfortable proceeding with our daughter's CI surgery. Our...

Should my HOH 4yo Learn ASL?

Go for the ASL! At the very least you could add Signed Exact English, but if you have the capability for teaching ASL do it! I'm now a big believer in some form of manual communication for ANY child, HOH or not!

CI toddler, new words caught on video

She was 16 months when that video was taken. She does love balloons. At first she was extremely afraid of them, then we made a game of hitting them. Now she attacks any balloon she sees and has alot of fun doing it. I love how the CI has increased the signing. Its like it has made...

CI toddler, new words caught on video

Our daughter added "uh-oh" to her vocabulary this week. This time we happened to have a camera nearby. YouTube - uh oh.mpg

Can someone please explain CIs to me?

You can chat with CI recipients live on Thursday nights at hearingjourney.com (Which is AB's site). Cochlear has a community as well, but I don't think they have the live chatroom. Either way you could probably get alot of answers to general questions.

Could use some help with choosing companies

I think its funny to see the above post about how AB mentors are paid for their services. Occasionally there is a big scandal about how recruiting members on the Cochlear community are paid also. I know AB mentors are not paid, and I suspect the same is true for the cochlear community members...

Could use some help with choosing companies

I'm curious from your intro... was it the harmony (external) that broke, or the HiRes90k (internal)? You say harmony in your intro. When they came to the conclusion that it was broken, what did they say was wrong with it? When you say the internal has broken twice, do you mean that you've...

    Wow, CI's are expensive

private insurance. We live in a world of insurance, whether welfare or private. To say that using insurance raises the price appreciably is nonsense. It takes a sum of money that large to support a CI center. Additionally, most centers I'm aware of are also dependent upon grants. Again, the...

    Wow, CI's are expensive

The state didn't pay for the CI. I did. So private school is an expense that I have relieved from the state, and my family.

    Wow, CI's are expensive

Insurance. Our copay is 20%... but it doesn't matter who paid it, 150k is not an inflated price when you figure it covers 12 months of workup, diagnostic radiology, equipment, surgeon fees, surgical office staff, Hospital fees and hospital staff, anesthesiology, audiology pre and post op, etc...

    Wow, CI's are expensive

I don't think its a fair thing to say deaf body = insane medical profits. Good things cost money. I don't feel 150k for two implants is unreasonable.

A Violation of Human Rights Re: Forcing A Deaf Child to Wear CI

Intended "Human" not Civil. Edited. Our hearing center bombarded us with information on all the options, including no medical intervention, and the use of ASL. Even after we had made the decision to implant, they still questioned us and made us re-hash it.
