Teacher of the Deaf needs help!!!

Hi. Do you know if he has older brothers and/or sisters at home? My youngest son (hearing) didn't talk much before he was around 3 to 3 1/2; actually he still doesn't talk much. I always felt that it was because he had a sister and brother who were several years older, plus his dad and I...

    Culture and Communication Survey

Hi. Here are my answers for your survey. 1) Yes, I'm deaf now, but I grew up hearing. Started losing my hearing in high school. 2) I've been learning. I can carry on a pretty good conversation, as long as the topics stay on everyday things. 3) Not that good yet. And since my family...

    "Self-acceptance"

My mom had rubella while she was pregnant with my sister. That sister has had no hearing in her right ear since she was born. But now she is one of the sisters who is losing her hearing in her left ear, like me. Rubella causes many disabilities, not just deafness. I guess that's why there's...

Where is there a deaf populated neighborhood or subdivison

Don't know what area/state your looking in, but there is a good-size Deaf community in Plano, TX. The Plano ISD is one of the top in the state, and they have a Regional School for the Deaf there. Of course, there is also a large community in Austin, where the state School for the Deaf is.

    "Self-acceptance"

That's kind of my philosophy. I feel like God has a reason, I just need to find out what it is. I grew up hearing; probably began losing my hearing in high school (I didn't realize it at the time, but looking back now, I can pick out strange occurances that could be explained by hearing loss)...

    i am curious

I prefer French toast or waffles to pancakes, but if I'm going to cook a big family breakfast (which I don't do too often anymore; most of the family has moved away), we have bacon, gravy & biscuits, hash browns, and orange juice. Kind of a heart attack on a plate. Unfortunately, my usual...

What to Do When Your Child is Stealing

My kids would steal little, inexpensive things (candy, gum, little spiral notebooks, small toys). Usually it was something they had asked me to buy for them, and I had told them no. I tried taking it away, grounding them, and many other things. But the thing that worked best was to make them...

    Is This Common?

There's something I've been curious about.... I know that most (I think around 90%) deaf children are born to hearing parents. But is it unusual for deaf parents to have a hearing child? My reason for asking: My cousin was born deaf. He married a woman who became deaf at age 3 due to...
