Advice please: son doesn't want to wear HAs

Yes, I tend to trust him as well. He's not a complainer by nature, doesn't cry or fuss when he trips or falls off something. If he says it hurts, it hurts. I'm trying to understand why & remedy it. As it turns out, he didn't want to go to Speech because it was during recess. Due to the heat...

Advice please: son doesn't want to wear HAs

Apparently there is only one other d/hh kiddo at the school right now and they've had a few others over the years, but I don't know how many. And this is all complicated by the fact that 2 elementaries closed over the summer and this school has "new" staff who came from the other schools. So...

Advice please: son doesn't want to wear HAs

That's horrible. He only has one teacher. She is very interested in using the FM system. The kids in class are very interested in seeing the FM system being used. He is excited about the idea and liked showing it around, but the reality of actually using it is something else right now...

Found another sound my son considers painful: the car A/C on high settings.

Advice please: son doesn't want to wear HAs

We have OtoEase. Usually just need it when molds are new, but maybe we need to use more. Oto-Ease® Earpiece Lubricant - Bottle | Westone I just thought of something. The part that goes into the ear canal on these ear molds is shorter than before. They might be touching him in a way that is...

Advice please: son doesn't want to wear HAs

For people who have volume control, at what age do you think you would have been able to manage it? I have no idea if little fingers would have a hard time "dialing in".

Advice please: son doesn't want to wear HAs

No volume control or if.there is.its.not enabled. Oticon tegos sorry this is brief...on phone trying to type. Not so good! I will look in his binder and see if mcl and ucl are noted somewhere else :ty:

Advice please: son doesn't want to wear HAs

Audiogram I was able to locate one of DS's audiogram, for the curious. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/FfHYrflQ_5arPdAlPFvKOczDri5K1cHPJt7cECec7-0?feat=directlink

    How do you survive?

I'm tempted to take the earthquake! I saw kiddos (middle school age) out practicing in full football gear Monday night. As a parent, I'm not sure I would subject my child to that & if he *wanted* to do it, I'd have a hard time approving.

Advice please: son doesn't want to wear HAs

Yes, there are options here in greater Phoenix. But, sorting it out & making it work for the whole family is a challenge: work schedules, commutes, before & after school care, the usual. I really wish there was a d/hh magnet school in Tempe; part of me can't believe there isn't. I think...

Advice please: son doesn't want to wear HAs

Just a quick update from appointment. Just a little wax in right ear, so that was removed. Both tubes in and no fluid in either ear. So that was all good news. Ran out of time to do any testing with the audi, but did have a few minutes to talk with her. She took the right aid and is sending...

Thank you for saying this; it helps me understand what DS might mean by "too loud."

Advice please: son doesn't want to wear HAs

This is one of those situations where I think we've missed the boat by not keeping up with ASL. We're all at the level of a toddler, really. That's when he started talking and we signed less (3.5 years or so). I wonder if he just doesn't have the expressive language to explain why he doesn't...

Advice please: son doesn't want to wear HAs

I hope you don't think we are forcing him through pain. If anything, we are very lax, I hope. I don't want to be one of "those" parents. :( Ok, I will admit, one time I physically restrained his hands so he couldn't pull them out at the audi's for one test. He has been very uncooperative...

Advice please: son doesn't want to wear HAs

DS is almost 6, hoh, and has just started Kindergarten. It seems like every year we go through this: he refuses to wear his hearing aids. And now, he refuses to even consider putting the boots on to try the new FM system. Right now, he will consent to wear the left HA all day. He might...

How/when did you learn you were d/hh?

How old were you when you were told/found out? How was it explained to you? Any other comments you have about the experience are welcome. :ty:

    pain from sounds?

My son reacts in pain when our beagle barks a lot excitedly/upset (like when we come home). He will cover his ears and scream in response. He says, "it hurts when Chopper is screaming." He says this whether or not he is wearing HAs. No other sounds seem to bother him.

    Preparing 8and worrying) for kindergarten...

I understand. While my son never had a bad experience, he was very scared of the audiologist's sound booth. It took until this spring, age 5.5, before we could get a complete set of tests because he would just shut down. He would close his eyes so he couldn't see, cover them with his hands...

    Bracelet identifying child as Deaf?

Road ID® USA's #1 Source for Runners ID, Cycling ID & Medical ID Tags Something like this could be used. Very customizable. I wear one. My mom & dad always have theirs on; dad's helped after his last motorcycle wreck. One sis has one & wears sometimes; other sis doesn't have one I think...

    Colour choice!

I like the Ocean Blue & the Savannah Beauty. I can't resist anything with cheetah or leopard spots. The purple transparent is cool! My son has Tegos in an orange transparent and it's interesting to see all the little parts. That orange is almost red, though. Get whatever would make you...
