Just saw a very different sign for color 'brown'

Nope, I know what grey sign is with two open five hands 'mixing' black and white. This was on an ASL practice quize online that was definitely the word brown but showed letter R shaking as in purple, green yellow and others. Maybe there was a B before the R that I missed but it was certainly...

Just saw a very different sign for color 'brown'

I'm used to the b-handshape drawn down the side of face once (palm forward), sort of like sign for beer. I just saw an initialized R-shape that shakes like other color signs in front of chest. Anyone familiar with that?

    Survey about captioned telephone use

An online survey is being conducted by the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Telecommunications Access at Gallaudet University to learn about the experiences of adults who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have hearing loss, and who use Captioned Telephone Services. The goal of the...

    SEE sign for "it"

I have never seen the two handed sign at all. My native Deaf tutor just points with index finger, as Bill Vicars above, when more clarification is needed.

What will the Monday night class focus on? What level, approximately?

    Students Looking for ASL buddies

I would not join in on the voice on sessions due to my own hearing loss, but the Monday night class and voice-off sessions do sound good. I will try to get myself to break through my lack of confidence one of these days and join in. Lol

    Students Looking for ASL buddies

This is probably a "duh?" question.... How can a beginner/intermediate signer communicate on the Google+ watching more than one other person sign at once?

Which way do you sign numbers 21 through 29?

Thanks to all who replied. 'L', other than 'the funny ones' is the way I will keep doing the twenties.

ASL with problem hands and fingers

Awww, Thanks NitroHonda. So sorry for what you've been through. All of my fingers are very stiff but like you, my ring fingers and pinkies are the worst.

ASL with problem hands and fingers

Thank you, Bottesini. Yes, E is getting harder also. W is the worst though. Whether in signs such as water, or in fingerspelling, it ends up looking like a V.

ASL with problem hands and fingers

How many of you have very arthritic fingers or other issues like Dupuytren's contracture? My fingers fight me with fingerspelling, even slow, and some hand shapes like 'W' and now 'R' are impossible to do properly. How accepting are you native signers? I would think many older Deaf have the...

Old question but so am I ? Looking for latent-deaf folks.

Hi Sheri, My hearing loss is severe and complicated by my rare autoimmune disease, fevers over 106 four times in my life, a possible genetic component, and most likely Menier's to top it off. It became obvious only about 10 years ago but I had intense tinnitus most of my life. I have lost...

Old question but so am I ? Looking for latent-deaf folks.

Hi Sheri, I am 60, struggling to learn ASL for several years, and have my Service Dog Tess by my side almost 24/7. I can really relate to your post! Classes did not work for me at all. Have you tried Lifeprint.com and their ASL.tc? I am finally making progress... not fast, but steady. I...

    my baby and his phonaks

Thank you for posting the Hearing Loss Simulator, Anij. I posted it on my FB page, asking those who care about me to listen to the moderate audio recordings and realize that my hearing loss is quite a bit worse. Maybe then they will slow down and look directly at me when speaking.

ASL and which side of brain?

Looking at those pictures brought up a funny memory though... My Dad was an electrical engineer who specialized in biomedical equipment inventions. When I was very young (I'm 60 now so we are talking dinosaurs. lol) he came home from work and presented a photo. Before he turned the picture...

    For Service Dog users

I was about to post this in the pet category but decided not to, service dogs are not just pets and there maybe some members here who are seriously looking for hearing/service dog info and support. PDPM also has an excellent closed Facebook group that has been a wonderful resource for me...
