Talk, scream, curse in your sleep?

    DVDs that are NOT subtitled.

I know I'm just bumping an old thread, but i had found something out that maybe someone else can benefit from. I had a JVC DVD player that would not show closed captions. Period. Turns out that the subtitle option was ALWAYS ON (and could NOT be turned off), and somehow this was keeping the...

Wanted Closed Caption Tweak (more options) for MCE2005?

I haven't seen such a thing, though you can try wading through the vast landscape that is AVS Forums. I think this is the forum for HTPCs and stuff like that. Do you want this for a TV tuner card or for DVD movies? I'm pretty sure it is program-dependent, the closed captioning, I mean...

Talk, scream, curse in your sleep?

Oh, I'm nervous about sleeping at anyone's house if I go out of state and visit...*shudders* It just wouldn't do to holler out like a psycopath in the middle of the night. A friend and i are supposed to go spend the night at The Myrtles Plantation to see if we can see ghosts, or whatnot. I...

Talk, scream, curse in your sleep?

My family has no problem figuring out what I'M saying most of the time. Last night I yelled "YOU LITTLE SHIT!" at the top of my lungs. Then I woke up swinging my legs over to get out of bed the bed to fight someone while hollering "YOU SHITHEAD!" I had a dream that my 13 yr-old son was out...

Talk, scream, curse in your sleep?

That's my problem. I don't hear myself at night, cuz my aids are off, so I prattle all night. And some nights are a little more colorful... Anyone ever had this problem and overcame it, somehow?

    Headphones/Loop Systems for music

You're welcome! :) BTW, some headphones actually work well with the T-coil, but it's touch and go as to which ones. I had a sony walkman set that worked well, but the set that came with my ex-wife's jvc player didn't work. I had a Memorex pair that worked well, and one unbranded set that I...

And while being on the subject of LIP reading..

President Jimmy Carter was hard for me to lip read. Sometimes Clint Eastwood...it's always hard to lip read a jaw clencher like him. James Earl Jones is wonderful to hear and lip read. As was Lorne Green.

    Losing 95% of hearing...

Yeah, it helps to talk to familiar people with whom you already know how their speech patterns are. But there are still some women, a couple of employees, who have their voices in JUST the wrong pitch that I can't understand them worth a sh1t. Talking on the phone with a hoh like me...sometimes...

Understanding people who speak in dialects

I agree with you. I didn't say intelligence level, I said education level. And a lazy speech habit does not denote a lazy person. All I mean by that is it's just the "easy way out" of saying things certain ways, sometimes.

Understanding people who speak in dialects

You fom Joisee? :) You oughta hear me talk...I slip around from dat New Orleans Brooklynese and cajun (it's fun when you get a handle on the vocal inflections), and deep fried southern accent. Not to mention because of my hearing my speech is not quite as perfect as a hearing person's...unless...

Understanding people who speak in dialects

You can always try passing the phone to someone else...:) There is really nothing racist about it...a black dialect, especially southern, is very distinct. But white people tend to do that too. It's all over, and mostly in those with an education level below standard. I've noticed that some...

    Hello

Hi. I'm new here, though I've been lurking several weeks. I'm partially deaf and wear two hearing aids (and am totally addicted to Pink Floyd - go figure...) but I still rely on lip-reading extensively to get me through a conversation. I lost my hearing when I was about 1.5 due to overlapping...

Understanding people who speak in dialects

Hi, I am HoH and wear two hearing aids. Your problem is not so much ebonics as it is just their way of speaking, their dialect. It is VERY difficult to understand. I'm a supervisor in a southern plant and have to decipher the speech of those who speak with the heavy southern drawl, the...
