How old were you all when you got your first HA's CI?

I started using an FM system (in the classroom) in 1996. I got ITE's in 2001. I just got bilateral BTE's.

Covering of hearing aids with your hair

I got BTE's recently. I wore ITEs for awhile a few years ago. I have very short hair, and so people are GONNA see my aids. I decided on BTEs for several reasons, but I decided to just "get over" the "what if someone sees them stuff." I no longer feel ashamed of what I am. I no longer see myself...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

FINALLY got my new hearing aids I got my HAs on Friday and I just LOVE them! I have read so many books on how to"cope" with hearing loss. These were books written for people who want to (re)join the Hearing world. Which is a valid choice for a lotr of people. BUT, I would like to see a book...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I am getting two BTE's for my hearing loss. What drives me nuts is all the silly things people OUTSIDE the Community think about those who are INSIDE the Community. I identify as "HOH" and am starting to be accepted by the Community. But I still like to do "Hearing" things like sing in a choir...

Do I have the right to refuse to use spoken english?

First Language versus Primary Language I grew up in a Hearing family. I knew only English. I started learning Sign when I was 20 years old. I am almost 40 years old. I have been signing for half my life. PSE/ASL has become my PRIMARY LANGUAGE/mode of communication. I have a documented...

    Hearing Worries

HA for CAPD? Just curious, where can I find info about HAs for CAPD. I used to use an ALD when I was going to a "Jr. College" many years ago, but how would HA's help?:hmm:

    Hearing Worries

Not sure I got CAPD I read some stuff about CAPD. Mostly what I found was about kids with it. But, "they" made it sound almost like an LD. I have NEVER been in LD classes, nor have I ever been dx'ed with an LD. I was not asleep during my ABR, I was WIDE AWAKE and the audiologist kept...

    Hearing Worries

I have some fluctuating conductive loss in my righ ear and a "flat 25-30 dB" loss in my left ear. I went to see an ENT, who talked so loud I could NOT understand much of anything he said. Then, I got an "ABR," which is suppossedly "normal." The audiologist made disparaging remarks about me...

Hello. I'm deaf on my right ear...

Perhaps a BAHA? Maybe you could "google" SSD (single sided deafness), I believe that is the "current" term for unilateral hearing loss.

I am Hard of Hearing today

Thanks for the support I have been REALLY struggling lately. I wish other people would just accept me the way I am. They probably just don't understand. I am in a battle to make life better for myself, and I am succeeding-slowly but surely.:aw:

    Capd

Hey, I "hear" ya! I have been dx'ed with (C) APD TWICE. I used an ALD, but it only helped some. I have also been dx'ed with SN hearing loss, so I don't know which one I have. Or both? I dunno. People can "flunk" CANS tests for various reasons. A hearing aid helps me SOME (makes things LOUDER...

Do high frequencies really matter much at all?

Funny Audiologist/"Passing" For "Normal" I got the results of my ABR back. The woman audi did not bother to give me a "stacked" ABR, so I don't know if the test is valid or not. She noted that I "responded" to her questions before the interpreter signed them. Umm...well did she ever think I...

I have 2 new medically diagnosed disorders

I hope you feel better soon Sorry to hear about your recent experiences. I struggled with...depression...I guess...for years and years. I was SO depressed about my hearing problem. But, I am not, now. I got dx'ed with Asperger's a few months ago. There is no one medication that can make it go...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

There are times when I seem to "hear better" than at others. Sometimes my tinnitus is "very loud" and other times it hardly bothers me. Sometimes a HA helps and sometimes it doesn't. I wish people who can hear "normally" would at least TRY to understand a little bit. I think it is "nutty"...

    What Tact To Take

Thanks, Beobang Thank you for your encouragement. There are so many good things in this world. So many things I can see with my eyes. And I can choose to use a HA or not. I might feel differently on different days. Opps I spelled your name wrong! Sorry.

    Tinnitus

ABR felt really weird Yeah, ABR DID feel like they rammed tubes way down in my ears. Made my whole head vibrate. BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT (loud vibrations). Funny thing was, I got some relief from the tinnitus I have at times. Afterwards, I was sick to my stomach and dizzy. It went away later the same...
