It sounds to me like you are a good candidate for a CI. If the surgery is successful you can expect to eventually use the phone again. It will take a couple of years of auditory training, but after what you went through it should be a walk in the park for you. Good luck with your decision.

It is very common but not well explained. I don't know if the drs down play it or intentionally not mention it, but it's a side effect of stimulating the facial nerves. The facial nerve is stimulated during the surgery as a way of monitoring that nerve. I don't know exactly how stimulating...

If that is a concern for you, discuss it with your doctor. You may be able to get some extra MRI scans done now so they won't need to ask for them later. If your doctor thinks you will need a more MRI over the next few years it might be nice to know if you will be needing to remove the magnet...

I always imagine the sounds. Don't know why since I cannot hear them... It's especially funny if I step out and it shuts off I'm still "hearing" the sounds until I realize that it's not running anymore. :P
