Does Cisco Explorer 8642HDC have CC????

If the cable box is connected to TV via HDMI (HDTV or digital video signal), then CC inside TV will not work. That's how HDMI works. You have to enable CC via menu setup of cable box ONLY if the cable box supports CC so that CC is overlayed on video signal and transmit CC to the TV. It's almost...

dvd player that will show closed captioning

I have no problem recording any Over the Air (OTA) TV programs. So far I have been able to record without any DRM restrictions. The recordings are in High Definition. I have read others may have issues with DRM and I believe that's up to the local TV station but my local stations do not do that...

dvd player that will show closed captioning

I have a PC with Windows 7 Media Center Edition I built and it does a fairly good job transmitting CC from PC to TV via HDMI connection only if DVD/Blu-ray disc contains CC data. Many Blu-ray discs do not contain CC but they contain sub-titles. The only disadvantage of PC with Media Center...

    ABC caption/audio sync

I am sorry to read about your CC issues. Are you using cable, satellite or OTA antenna? Contact your TV subscriber about your CC issues. I use OTA antenna and I watched Chuck and CC worked perfectly for me. Please don't get insulted but did you make sure CC was enabled in your TV or...

    ABC caption/audio sync

I just watched the first 20 minutes of "Castle" and it was much better than before. Every once in a while there wa a very short delay but it was watchable. The annoying part is when two sets of captions appear simultanously, one set for each character and that drives me crazy. It's hard to tell...

    ABC caption/audio sync

I just watched Flash Forward for about half an hour and the CC is slightly delayed enough to be somewhat annoying. It appears to be a little worse than other channels. I can conclude that CC in ABC shows is not as good as other channels but I think it's improving. Like I said before, CC in...

    ABC caption/audio sync

I have seen "Castle" in the past but stopped watching it because of CC issue. CC was always out of sync and very far behind. But the video you presented, CC is a lot better than past "Castle" episodes in my area. CC in your sample video looks somewhat typical as compared to other TV shows. I...

    Closed Captioning on CBS lately

Fox CC in Reno, NV is pretty bad during non-prime-time shows (mostly re-runs like Seinfeld, Simpsons and Everybody Loves Raymond). But Fox CC is excellent for primetime High Def shows ("24", House, Bones, Fringe). Very strange. Peter

    Closed Captioning on CBS lately

Now you mention it. I rarely watch ABC shows because they kind of suck but I have tried to watch "Castle" and their CC is delayed pretty bad. But some other ABC shows seem to be fine but I can't be sure. If CC behaviour is different in different shows, then CC issues are likely from the shows or...

    Closed Captioning on CBS lately

CBS in my area used to have serious CC issues but not anymore. I use Over the Air (OTA) antenna, not cable or satellite. All of my local stations are 100% digital (HDTV or SDTV). I contacted my local CBS station and they worked hard to fix it. I don't think it's a nationwide problem. If others...

CC on CC-only DVDs don't work

Your description of TV setup should work. I don't know why it's not working for you. As for your converter box, try connect RCA cables (yellow, white, red) from converter box to another composite input (if available) of your TV instead of using white coaxial cable (ANT OUT of converter box)...

CC on CC-only DVDs don't work

Mitsubishi Projector: Is it front or rear projection TV? Broksonic DVCR-810: Never heard of it. Is it a Digital Video Recorder? Does it have DVD player? Magnavox SDTV Tuner: Are you using it because your TV is analog? How are the cables hooked up between DVD player and TV? Are you using...

    Subtitles on widescreen movies

All widescreen HDTV aspect ratios are 16 by 9 (1.78:1). It's very common that many movies including "2012" aspect ratios are 2.40:1. Therefore you will always see black bars at top and bottom assuming you don't use zoom in your TV or DVD/Blu-ray player. Some movies are 1.85:1 and widescreen...

Final, SDH had black soild background!!!

I hope so, but that's up to the movie studio that made the disk, not DVD or Blu-ray player. Peter

DVD says CC, but does not have Closed Captioning

That's very strange. DVD players should not care about CC when using S-video or composite (RCA cables) because they are analog. TVs should be responsible for decoding analog CC, not external sources like DVD players. Some TVs refuse to decode CC using component cables. My old TV was able to...

DVD says CC, but does not have Closed Captioning

pcryan, Are the cables in cheapie and uplift DVD players connected exactly the same way to the TV? Peter

Please tell Blu-Ray to support Closed Caption CC

It won't hurt to try. I would use only two cables: HDMI for subtitles and Composite (A/V) for CC. You probably don't have to do change any settings on Blu-ray player. Just simply change the inputs (HDMI or Composite) of your TV via remote control. Let us know the outcome. Peter

Please tell Blu-Ray to support Closed Caption CC

Video signals from players to TVs must be in "interlace" or "non-progressive" scan mode in order to display CC (line 21). If you set your player to "Interlace" or "non-progressive" scan mode, your TV might be able to display CC with component cables. My Panasonic Blu-ray player has component...

Please tell Blu-Ray to support Closed Caption CC

That's probably an oversight by HDMI committee. I believe line 21 is designed for analog CC, not digital CC. But I prefer subtitle or SDH and technology is probably cheaper than using CC for studios or DVD/Blu-ray manufacturers. Peter

Please tell Blu-Ray to support Closed Caption CC

That's partially correct. But DVR cable box (or other external sources if supported) can "trick" HDMI by overlaying CC text onto video signal as if it behaves like subtitles (or SDH) and transmit to TV via any digital cable like HDMI, DVI or even component. HDMI does not care what goes on the...
