    Loudness

Oh... so you understand the scream I am talking about. It generally happens when he doesn't get his own way (typical 3 year old :giggle:) but A LOT louder and higher pitched than normal. So, how come your daughter can hear sound but not understand it? Is there another diagnosis that makes...

    Loudness

Oh yes... I understand that... you can only amplify residual hearing. If there isn't enough it's not possible. But Tyler has a moderate/severe loss - his aids should amplify speech enough to be audible? So, why would he not hear sounds/speech at approx. the same level or pitch as us...

    Loudness

What do you mean by this? Doesn't hearing aids allow people to hear and understand speech at conversational levels? Isn't that the point of hearing aids? To make speech audible?

    Loudness

Just curious why this is? If you're wearing your aids won't you hear at what volume you are speaking, yelling, or screaming at?

    Loudness

So if he screams that loud with his hearing aids on... would it not be LOUD to him too? I thought hearing aids brought sounds up to hearing levels? (I'm not too concerned about how his voice will sound... that won't matter to me. As long as he can hear and speak (or ASL) I'm fine with that).

    Loudness

No, that's not what I'm talking about... his voice doesn't sound "different". Maybe when he starts speaking. And I think we'll gradually just get used to that. What I'm talking about, is the general "loudness". When he screams, he SCREAMS! When he cries, he CRIES! He is very loud... and...

    Loudness

Not sure where to post this... but it's a question I want to throw out there. Even though Tyler has worn hearing aids since he's been 5 months old - he has always been VERY loud (with and without his aids). When he was a baby, he would often cry very loud and then his babbles were loud...

    Psychology of Parents on CI

I can only speak from my own personal experience. Prior to Tyler, we never had any experience with deaf/hoh. We knew that Tyler had some degree of hearing loss upon discharge from delivery. It wasn't until 12 weeks old, that we found out he had a moderate-severe bilateral sensioneural...

    Phonak Maxx vs. Phonak Naida

How to get an FM system

We are in the same situation. We are going to purchase new aids & FM in October. I think we've decided on the Naida hearing aids, ML11i receiver, and SmartLink+ transmitter. How old is your ds? Tyler is 3 years old.

When do you put on your aid(s)/implant(s)?

Very interesting to read other people's routines with their ha's. It's a bit different for us as I'm hearing - it's my 3 year old son who wears ha's. He started wearing his ha's at 5 months old. At 3, he's still too young to put them himself (although he can turn them off and remove...

Dr. Phil Show Features DeafBlind Triplets who Received CIs

Yes, you are talking about the Hooker Triplets - Zoe, Sophie and Emma. I have their mother Liz Hooker on my Facebook. I have never met them personally... but from what I know, they sound awesome. Liz seems super nice and very dedicated to her daughters.

    Phonak Maxx vs. Phonak Naida

I can't find the Superos on the Phonak website... wonder if they still make them??? I might just stick to my gut feeling, Naidas. Thanks for the info ElliottsDad... it's nice to hear some else's story.

    Phonak Maxx vs. Phonak Naida

Phonak Superos... I haven't heard of these? Are they good? How are they in relation to the Naidias? Elliotts Dad... have you noticed a difference with his speech with the Naidas? Can you understand his words? Tyler still just does a lot of baby babble... I believe some of it is him...

    Phonak Maxx vs. Phonak Naida

It's frozen... how come? funding? I called my ACSD rep the other day about an FM System. As our son is coming due in October, I wanted to know if they would cover a FM system as well - looks as though they will. Yeah!!! I've been going crazy looking at Phonak's FM systems - they are...

    Phonak Maxx vs. Phonak Naida

We obviously get the Assisted Devices... but we also get ACSD/ODSP. Unfortunately, we've been on the waiting list for SSAH for several years... but still nothing.

    Phonak Maxx vs. Phonak Naida

Thanks EQL... I never thought about using a FM system around the house. That may help him. Unfortunately... we don't have one... they told us they'd talk to us more as he gets closer to school. But maybe I will bring it up to the audiologist at our next appointment. Would Assisted...
