    Mainstream or Residental Provincial School

Exactly... that's a long bus ride for a 4 year old by themselves. Not to mention I will serious worry about him being without me in Toronto. Not to mention... I really don't think they provide buses out here for transport. And my husband will NEVER EVER move to Toronto... I'd have...

    YouTube or Website Info

As previously discussed in many of my other threads. Even though Tyler "should" hearing with his hearing aids on - this may not be the case. Why not? Also... the whole clarity issue when amplifying. My inlaws have SERIOUS issues with Tyler and his hearing loss and I was hoping to...

    Mainstream or Residental Provincial School

I am an hour from Toronto... but the closest residential school is about an hour and a half away, the other one is about 2.5hrs.

    Mainstream or Residental Provincial School

I am sure this has been discussed before... but as I said before I am very new. If you had a child that had a moderate/severe hearing loss - 3 years old and still non-verbal, although starting to show a real interest in signs. So, we are learning more everyday and constanting doing SEE with...

    ASL Wall Boards/Plaques

Just curious, has anyone ever seen any wall boards/plaques with ASL? I've seen lots of flash cards and such but I was looking for wall boards - I want to put them around the house to help all of us. Any suggestions or places?

    Hearing Aids vs. Cochlear Implants

What is a speech and language clinican? SLP? Or a Developmental Pediatrician? No, he hasn't had anything like this done. But I do not believe he has a syndrome.

    Hearing Aids vs. Cochlear Implants

Okay... ramp up your ASL... give him another language... okay... now how do you recommend that? I don't know ASL. I am just learning as I go. I am learning as many signs as I can and then showing him throughout the day. But I don't know ASL. You might as well tell me to teach him Chinese...

    Hearing Aids vs. Cochlear Implants

And what would you recommend? You have to remember we are new to this... when we found out about his hearing loss, we got hearing aids on him when he was 5 months old. We were told ha's were all he would need... and that speech would come. AVT didn't work, so we moved on to SLP. Now I...

Do you sleep with your hearing aids/ci on?

We always take Tyler's ha's off before bed. Occasionally he has fallen asleep with them on in the car... but not very often and not very sound.

    Hearing Aids vs. Cochlear Implants

Oh yeah... he has LOTS of resources... SLP, Resource, OT, Teacher of the Deaf... we did AVT a few years ago but that wasn't for Tyler - so now we do TC.

    Hearing Aids vs. Cochlear Implants

We are teaching him SEE... up until recently he wasn't even interested in that either. But lately he seems interested in trying to copy our hand movements... it's cute to watch! But he's just in the beginning stages.

    Hearing Aids vs. Cochlear Implants

When I went with Tyler at 18 months, they told me that they usually implant severe/profound. But maybe after a few years with no speech they will look at implanting with a lower loss??? faire_jour... how old is your daughter? Was she born with the loss? When did she get implanted? Did she...

    Hearing Aids vs. Cochlear Implants

I understand nothing will make him speak... only himself. But I want to make sure he has access to all sounds (including speech). And I worry that maybe the hearing aids aren't providing him with this (hence the lack of speech). But I also worry if I choose to implant and destroy his...

    Hearing Aids vs. Cochlear Implants

We took our son to find out about cochlear candidacy when he was 18 months old. They declined Tyler - he has a moderate-severe loss and we were told hearing aids should be enough for him. We left it but he's now 3 years old and still non-verbal. I know he hears because he responds and he...

    Loudness

Tyler had a lot of balance/motion sickness issues when he was younger... everytime we'd go into a vehicle he'd throw up and that would continue throughout the day. I took him to several doctors and no one could tell me why... but in my heart I knew it was a vestibular. He hasn't done...

    Loudness

We actually get more ASL services than AV... Tyler was discharged from AVT at 1year old... and since then we've been doing Total Communication. We have a Teacher of the Deaf teach and I've been learning signs on my own and teaching him. Although I am now looking to get him involved more with...
