    Its Not The Parents Fault....

i understand that, i know a deaf child will never hear as well as a hearing person but depending on the approach you use and the age you start your child with therapy sessions makes a big difference. I know this from expierence with my own daughter. She was implanted at the age of 2 and has...

Can someone who is severely deaf talk normally?

In the auditory verbal approach it is used so the child will learn to listen to what is being said. It also helps to build the childs auditory memory.

    Its Not The Parents Fault....

It would not be a problem at all if were her siblings because they would learn from us, but it's a little different when its friends and cousins. in all reality i can't go asking everyone to go take sign language classes.Anyways thats not the only reason, being able to communicate verbally is...

    Its Not The Parents Fault....

It's not about making your child "normal", it's about doing what you feel is best for your child. When a hearing couple first learns of their child being deaf of course they are initally going to be scared. When it's unexpected you go through all types of emotions. In my case it was all new to...

    2nd implant

samantha, i know it's hard not to let people like this get to you but just let them be. It's like we have to constantly defend our love for our children. We do the best we can and all that matters is what's in our hearts. I think when people who say stuff like it's because of their own up...

    Its Not The Parents Fault....

Great post Angel, like neecy said it's not as easy as it sounds to jump into the surgery. In my case at least it took alot of evaluating and testing to see if she was a candidate. My daughter wore HA for a year and constantly had audiograms done to see if she had any benefit from her HA...

Speech Language and ASL (CI Users)

My story is similar to Cloggy's, my daughter did not have speech before her CI. She was born with a profound deafness. She talks and does not sign yet but we are in the midst of looking into sign language classes.

When are we allowed to let Hearing people join our culture and all.

Gnu, what makes you think i force my daughter to speak??? I am a mother who made the best choice for MY daughter. Obviously i made the right choice for her because she loves talking and singing and listening to music. If it bothered her to hear and she she decided to not use the implant anymore...

    CI soon...CI friendly only please

Glad to know everything went well for you. If i remember correctly, i think we had to wait about 6 weeks for my daughters second mapping, so it seems about right. You can always schedule a sooner appointment if anything is bothering you. It takes time to get used to it. I had to take my daughter...
