my oticon sumo DM is easily the best hearing aid I've ever had and i've been through several styles/types and brands. I'm looking at it right now and I don't notice any metal on the outside of it.

I use an oticon sumo DM. The average battery life is about 2 weeks for me. I'm not sure what the cost of the batteries is, sorry.
