***what do u do when ur doctor calls u retarded cuz you cant understand his speech**

If this person is a student doctor, Is it a teaching hospital?, then the hospital and his trainers need to know about this. I agree with all of the suggestions of people to contact, especially jillio's letter to the editor. If the hospital perceives public scrutiny they will act and not sweep...

    Dissing interpreters !?

Did I miss something? or did the poster? I have always been under the impression that this is ALLDEAF, a website dealing with D/deaf and D/deaf issues and not a Spanish translation site - uhmmmmm

    Name sign question

It can change, if you want it to and you like a new name sign bestowed upon you, but it doesn't have to change. Generally D/deaf will ask your name sign. They will use the name sign you go by unless you mention that you would like a new one.

Ohio teen who killed over video game gets 23 years

agreed. Too many parents use videos and games as a babysitter and then wonder why their kids are hyper and always need stimulation.

Santa Monica Police -refusal to obtain terp

Good question. I do not know but am curious. I am thinking probably not at the scene, given the circumstances you relay. But yes, definately for the court date. That being said, as an officer I certainly could not complete my report or investigation adequately without talking to both parties...

    Learning Sign, Awful Teacher...

I am not a teacher but it sounds like you are in Level 1 which can seem boring and repetitive. Your teacher is correct in saying that you cannot run until you learn to walk (so to speak) and learning the signs and how to make them is a step. Kudos to you for being brave and taking that...

Ohio teen who killed over video game gets 23 years

Hardly sounds like some poor mental kid who snapped, this statement indicates a premeditation.

    Deaf/ Blind Interpreting

Yes. Tactile is a combination of the signs and fingerspelling for proper names and such, just as in non-tactile signing.

British police officers face torture allegations

Good to see a negative about the Police from Liebling that points somewhere other than the US. I wouldn't call a local drug dealer a terrorist, but they could be. I will wait to see what the investigation reveals.

US policeman used Taser on 72-year-old woman

I heard about this incident and watched the video. The officer used a less harmful way of managing the belligerent woman. If the officer had allowed her to rant and rave into traffic and she were struck and hurt or killed the media, public, and her family would have been wanting his head for...

    A half-terped event?

Absolutely!! Interpreters are certified and licensed, if you have the qualifications then you can present yourself as an interpreter, if not then you cannot and are not. Being a signer is not being an interpreter. Good Luck!! I think you should sign the songs your group is doing but do not...

    Deaf/ Blind Interpreting

That is true, and although we are always short or nearly so at functions for SSP and/or Interpreter to client ratio, we are blessed, as both programs at Cincinnati State and Sinclair(Dayton) train their students in all modes whether they are focused of tactile or not. I am not sure about Wright...

Titanic survivor sells mementos to pay for care

Oh, what a shame, she has passed. I noticed this thread and had missed it before I was wondering the same thing when I read the story. Isn't Britain supposed to be one of the places where you are not charged for care, ever?
