    The girl can't "listen"...

That guy in the rest room isn't worth bothering with. A lot of hearing people have no desire to understand what it is like being deaf. On the other hand, I was working with someone this morning who, when I explained that I couldn't hear what she was saying because my HAs can't pick up...

    Phonak FM System

I have a Smartlink with DAI shoes. I say go for it, fm can help in lots of situations, as listed above. You have nothing to lose by trying fm with Tyler and he will most likely get a lot of benefit.

Why can I hear better in nightclubs?

Do you have a conductive hearing loss? Apparently some people with this type of loss can hear better with background noise.

    Hearing aids vs. Headphones

It depends on your hearing loss. When I use headphones instead of hearing aids I can only hear the bass sounds, due to profound high frequentcy loss. Have you ever tried using direct audio input with your BTEs, might be worth a try? You would need audio shoes and direct audio input leads...

What is your favourite type of aid?

Don't have any choice, have to wear super power BTEs, currently NHS Reflex DSPs. However, they are better than the bulky analogue aids I wore as a child. I have a mixed hearing loss, a conductive component, due to chronic infections and a mastoidectomy as a child, on top of a bilateral...

    Tubing advice

I have thick walled tubing in my earmoulds which keeps coming out. I wondered if anyone has any tips as to how I could get it to stay in without running off to the audiologist, who in the past has insisted on providing me with new earmoulds to solve this problem. I'm happy with my current...

Do you sleep with your hearing aids/ci on?

I couldn't sleep with my HAs on, even if I wanted to, I'd get feedback before my head even hit the pillow!! My HAs start whistling whenever anything gets any where near them, if I doze off on the sofa and turn my head towards one side the HA starts whistling. I don't think feedback...

    Direct Audio Input (DAI)

Personally I've not found the Music Link to be of much use, it only seems to work if it's in exactly the right spot next to my HAs and only then if I hold it in place, which isn't very practical. DAI is much better.

Hearing Aid tube to ear mold

When buying replacement tubing for your HAs you need to make sure you get the right type. Most HAs need standard size, but super power aids like mine use thick walled tubing to reduce feedback, libby horn tubing is also available which accentuates high frequencies. HAs with domes use thinner...

    Direct Audio Input (DAI)

I thought that your post implied that you used different HAs for DAI and T-coil.

    CIs & Smartlink+

I don't know about CIs but when I use my smartlink with my HAs the battery life is about halved.

    Direct Audio Input (DAI)

I know you can have HAs with T-coil and DAI, I have two in my ears!!! I was just trying to point out to Rose that the NHS in Britain, where we both live, can provide her with HAs which have both T-coil and DAI. You are exactly right that you can not use both functions at the same time...

    Direct Audio Input (DAI)

Can't you have HAs that provide both DAI and T-coils, mine do and I'm also British and use the NHS?

If your next audiologist was different to who you have now....

I'm British and use the NHS. I don't think I've seen the same audiologist twice and I've worn HAs for 38 years!!!!

    Legal Deafness

I've got a little credit card sized card too, can't remember where it came from as I've had it for about 20 years! It has a list of communication tips on the back that can be shown to people if I'm having difficulty communicating.

    what is fm receiver?

The receivers, or audio shoes, on my HAs make crackling noises too, I put it down to electrical interference but I'm not sure if I'm right.
