WFD now bans "deaf-mute" and "hearing impaired"

Despite being Jewish I can't really answer that question either, but I can make a few comments. The classification in ancient Jewish law (of deaf-mutes having the same legal status as minors which meant they could not be witnesses, own property or be considered liable for doing anything illegal...

Verizon will charge $2 to pay bill online

WDYS, according to the article linked in the OP, you won't be charged for paying by check.

Verizon will charge $2 to pay bill online

I agree it doesn't make sense. It's possible that Verizon's intention is to claim that many check payments arrive after the due date and use that as an excuse to charge their $5.00 late fee and get even more money. Unless you pay for a return receipt you can't prove when the vendor receives...

Help with hearing aids for child

I think one factor may be where the programming handles are in the hearing aids. If the programming handles happen to be where your child's hearing loss changes from going from an downward slope to an upward slope -- the hearing aids may be an OK fit. Also, your child's audi can print out...

    Happy Meal Banned

Cool. I didn't know it was possible to buy commercial bread without sugar. I will have to look harder in my neighborhood (I don't want to mail order bread.) But ... at least one of the breads at foodforlife does include sugar in the form of malted barley (Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Grain Bread |...

    what your new year resolution?

    1) Eat more fruit and vegetables. 2) Eat less chocolate. Hopefully this will translate into losing weight -- but I'm not making that a resolution. I'm going to focus on the process and hopefully that will get me to the goal. I started this past Monday. I've done good 3 days so far, whoo...

    Got a question about appliances

Sounds nice and I didn't know there were stickers for bathrooms. Sounds like an easy way to make interesting changes whenever you want them. :)

    Got a question about appliances

I think your grandmother and my parents would have liked each other's homes. My parents got shag carpeting also ... :)

    HAs FOR BABY BEFORE CI

I agree. I'm trying to learn ASL now, it's slow going and I know it will take a long time. I keep trying to remind myself that even if I only know a few signs, if the other people around me also know those signs it can help us get over a stumbling block when we don't understand each other...

    Random Vents.....

Same here. But its possible that your depression was triggered by your sugar binge earlier today. I've read that a lot of sugar can make people feel depressed, tired, etc. Try a fruits and veggies binge instead for the rest of the week -- maybe it will make you feel better!

    Got a question about appliances

:laugh2: My parents also purchased metallic wall paper for the pink bathroom in the early 1970s. They weren't the hippie types either. My guess is that they met a very convincing sales person. :D I remember my mom regretting the wall paper as soon as it was up on the walls. She still...

    HAs FOR BABY BEFORE CI

It's quite possible that I may be aware of a higher percentage of people who don't do as well with their CIS than you because I know most of them through HLAA meetings and conventions. There are a lot of reasons to be affiliated with HLAA including because of the lobbying work they do in...

    HAs FOR BABY BEFORE CI

I'm not up to date on everything that is available now. I know that there use to be at least one product that was not that expensive compared to most FM systems. Oticon use to make a mic that plugged in directly to hearing aids that had DIA (direct audio input) options. IIRC, the mic...

    Happy Meal Banned

I've read that the problem of HFCS vs. cane sugar isn't that one is healthier than the other (IIRC, it's not) but that food manufacturers tend to use more added sugar if they use HFCS instead of cane sugar because it is so much less expensive. Having a larger quanitity of added sugar is what...

    HAs FOR BABY BEFORE CI

From what I observed, I think the best way to prevent that is to teach him ASL regardless if he ends up having a CI or not. IMHO, its good to be able to have a way to communicate that is effortless (even if he won't be able to use ASL with everyone he knows). CIs are not quite there from...

    Got a question about appliances

Close and possibly even spot on, its been awhile since I last saw the bathroom. :) I'll take back what I said in my earlier post, it's not actually an ugly shade ... but I never liked it for bathroom fixtures. I just thought it was too much. Sometimes people get really creative in their...

    HAs FOR BABY BEFORE CI

That is an interesting thought. And perhaps my friend was wrong and his CI just slipped off his ear. NYC is so crowded he could have gotten joustled while crossing the street and it may have slipped off without anyone helping themself to it. But ... I have had 3 people tell me how when they...

Is this proper message to spread the Deaf awareness???

I think its ironic that a man who wears CIs is pushing a product that contains Ibuprofen. Some sources say that Ibuprofen has side effects for some people including dizziness. So ... if he takes enough and he is one of those people he could very well end up with vestibular problems to go along...
