Businesses hanging up on relay calls

@ dhb -- great idea about complimenting the good relay operators to the company. I have thanked quite a few personally, but I had not thought to let their employers know.

    Great Depression Meals

Similar family history here. I was the youngest of parents who were both the youngest in their birth families. I think my mother's mother was in her 40s when she had my mother. My parents were 31 and 38 when they had me.

Businesses hanging up on relay calls

Wow! That is really outrageous! I'm glad that relay operator got fired and I'm also glad that it didn't end up going badly for you. I wonder how often that happens? When I use relay operators, sometimes I can tell that the operator is getting the names wrong but I never experienced...

Businesses hanging up on relay calls

See post #11. Most of the time I prefer to use e-mail or text. I can have a phone call if absolute necc. except when my HAs are broken down. During that winter the only time I had to use the phone was during business hours with my doctor (hospital employee and was not allowed to use...

Businesses hanging up on relay calls

I had edited my post after you responded, but before I saw that you did. So I guess VRS is really fast. Another reason to learn sign! :)

Businesses hanging up on relay calls

OK, so when the relay operator does it that way -- how do they explain the delay in responding throughout the phone call? ETA: Maybe there are less delays in a VRS than in a relay call that involves text?

I'm not sure what you are saying Catty. For the difficult businesses, did you do the same thing as me? Have the relay operator act like they were asking a general question, or calling for their boss, or pretending to be me (I'm not sure what they did -- I guess it varied), until it came time...

    Great Depression Meals

I guess butter, sugar & cinnammon was a popular combo in the early 1900s. My mom would occassionally boil some egg noodles and add in that combo when I was a kid and tell us that her mother had made it frequently. She added in some raisins also though. Oh my gosh! I still remember the sugar...

Businesses hanging up on relay calls

During the winter of 2010/2011 my hearing aids were too broken down to use on the phone and I used relay until I could replace them. I got a lot of hang-ups and it was very frustrating. But what can relay operators do? Legally don't they have to make it clear that there are speaking for a...

I think you're right Sally Lou, and that's really not fair to DoVip. ^^^ This.

my lady broke up with me..

Frisky Feline, assuming that the study was done correctly, it appears that you and your friends are just not representative of most American deaf/hearing couples. The statistics are probably an attempt at summarizing all of the American deaf/hearing couples. It makes sense that the smaller...

Me too, Tousi. Ugh! Beowulf, I hope your mom just made that up because she wanted to encourage you not to complain...

    HAs FOR BABY BEFORE CI

Maybe? If she is arround 52, then I am. :) That's a tough question to answer. Audiologists have told me that I am definitely HH because I can be helped with hearing aids. However, life is not a sound booth. :) In effect, I consider myself to be socially deaf. There are very few real...

Trying to read lips with double vision..

Vorsia, I don't know anything about tactile signing -- sorry. I was wondering if you are on any MVG forums? Perhaps there is something else you can do to lessen the symptoms?

    HAs FOR BABY BEFORE CI

I grew up in Illinois. I started grade school (kindergarten) in 1965 and high school in 1973. My city didn't have middle schools; grade school included kindergarten through 8th grade. I don't know what was available in Illinois at the time, but looking back I'm kind of amazed that I was...

    HAs FOR BABY BEFORE CI

You bet. I just looked up MSSD and see that it was authorized (?) as early as 1969! I assume it opened shortly afterwards. It would have been great to go to a school where I could have actually known what was going on most of the time. For all intents and purposes, I consider myself...

DOes it seem like a 2 year old kid is witness to physical abuses??

I just saw the picture of the three year old who was beat up. I think the two kids must have been unsupervised -- it must have taken some time to get so beat up. I'm thinking that maybe the nursery school needs to be shut down.

Verizon will charge $2 to pay bill online

Yep. I'm sure that Verizon executives hate, hate, hate the fact that they can't pass on their credit card processing fees to the customers that make them incur them. Well, not easily anyway. This was probably an effort to do that and they probably tripped over one of the credit card...

    IEP help for 2nd grader

Please take my comments with a hefty shovel of salt because I know very little about IEPs and their process. But it doesn't seem to me that the school's argument is helping their case. Whether the child has sensineural hearing loss with APD or sensineural hearing loss with a very bad case of...

Verizon will charge $2 to pay bill online

Since the only payment affected by the $2.00 fee seem to have been those paid by credit cards -- I'm gonna guess that it was the banking industry that got this nixed behind the scenes. Much as I would like to believe that huge corporations and government are concerned about what the majority...
