I Cooked Vegetarian Tonight -- My Cat is P-O!

I also tend to keep my recipes in a directory on my laptop :) -- much easier to find when I need it. I got the chipotle peppers packed in adobe sauce, and that's what I used. The sodium was not that high. For a third of the can (Goya's) it was 480 mg. Divided by 4 to 8 servings that is 120...

wow SERVAL cat is very beautiful

:D And what do serval cats have to say about turbo engines? I love their ears, esp. on the back -- very dramatic looking. Wiki says that they use them for signaling -- I wish they had written more about that.

I Cooked Vegetarian Tonight -- My Cat is P-O!

It was very good! It's a keeper. Interesting combo of spices but I used granulated garlic instead of cloves and added 1 Tablespoon of white vinegar at the end. IMHO, vinegar has a way of making cooked veggies and beans "pop", even if it did have a lot of tomatoes in it. It turned out to...

Deafness and pet peeves about society

:laugh2: Probably not the best way to "win friends and influence people", but I would love to have seen those people's facial expressions right after you said that.

Deafness and pet peeves about society

I get what you are saying. Some forums seem to be one of the few places where its OK to have intellectual conversations as its not fashionable at the moment.

I Cooked Vegetarian Tonight -- My Cat is P-O!

:). No that is not an option for them. I've no plans to go totally vegan, but I do plan on figuring ways out to eat more fruits and vegetables. Seems to be a good way to continue to be able to eat and feel satisfied while still cutting the calories. The nice thing about them is that I...

I Cooked Vegetarian Tonight -- My Cat is P-O!

Well, I may do the same most of the time if it doesn't give me gas. The soaking part wasn't bad, after all the beans could soak on its own -- it didn't need me! I did change the water a couple of times but that just took a minute. Watching the pot until it started to boil three times in...

I Cooked Vegetarian Tonight -- My Cat is P-O!

That was very nice of you! I'm not that generous with my cats. They only get cat food except the younger one who usually wants a bit of whatever I'm having -- as long as it's non-vegetarian. The older one is a rescue and wants nothing to do with people food. I guess it reminds him of...

    Hearing aid that recognizes sounds

Angle, check out an auto supply store and look for the side and rear view mirrors that cover more area the the types that normally come with most cars. FWIW, my drivers license says that my restrictions are: corrective lenses hearing aids OR full view mirror I think full view mirror is...

I Cooked Vegetarian Tonight -- My Cat is P-O!

One of my cats is pacing back and forth in front of the kitchen sink throwing dirty looks at me. I just finished cooking and I only made vegetarian dishes tonight. No meat, chicken or fish tidbits for her. That is what she usually gets when I do my marathon cooking once or twice a week...

    What's your dinner tonight?

Meatloaf and collard greens/tomatos/mushrooms with a spicy dressing. (Dressing including cayenne pepper :) ). As suggested in another thread, I made the meatloaf with oatmeal instead of bread crumbs. It was good. :) Thanks for mentioning that option, WhatDidYouSay and KristinaB.

Official AllDeaf Switched At Birth Discussion [tv show on abc family]

It's on Hulu today. I'm glad the show continued. This show makes deafness and hearing loss more "normal" to the average person. I'm constantly surprised by how much influence TV has on many people's attitudes. So, I hope its on the air for many seasons to come! :)

    Hearing aid that recognizes sounds

I'm sorry, I had misremembered what I read in Henry Kisor's autobiography called "What's That Pig Outdoors?" I just checked, and what he actually said was: Hll and Wang, 1990, page 85 (Henry Kisor became deaf at the age of 3 from meningitis. He was raised orally and worked for many...

Should deaf schools be stronger advocates?

I think its more difficult to do two different things really well than one thing really well. Anyone aware of any colleges and universities that have taken on active lobbying in addition to their education mission? If Gallaudet has graduated students who have sucessfully lobbied for laws...

    Hearing aid that recognizes sounds

Agreed. My experience is that its hearing people that are more likely to be oblivous to what is going on around them than D/d/hh people. Hearing people are also more likely to be listening to their ipods or on a cell phone. I think that is OK when one is at home or in the office -- but...

    Hearing aid that recognizes sounds

^^^^ That. Plus you can also see the flashing lights. The best approach is for every important signal to be given in at least two different ways. We do the same thing for smoke alarms. At first, years ago, they only gave off a sound, but now you can get ones that also flash a light...

Most amount of money you've found? (in $ US)

I found $20.00 in a park one day, attached to a money clip. The clip obviously didn't stay clipped. I couldn't think of a way to figure out who had lost it so I kept it. One time Verizon applied a payment to my account that I hadn't made. It was for 43 dollars and change. I called them...

Most amount of money you've found? (in $ US)

Perhaps, but it doubtful that the money was marked and Kristina could have spent it slowly over a few years. I consider myself to be honest, but that must have been really tempting. I have been very honest with smaller amounts of lost items -- but I honestly don't know what I would have...

    Envoy Esteem middle ear implant

CIs and implants are covered by health insurance but, practically speaking, hearing aids are not. Conclusion: Surgeons are much better at business negotiations and lobbying than audiologists and us, the D/d/hh.
