I'm not too shy if i the person speaks clearly and is easy to understand.But i think that i may be a bit shy in the way that i don't talk with people much and as a result i am pretty hopless at having a conversation with someone i don't know,like i don't know what to say !!! :dunno: People...

yeah captions on tv usually come up a second before the audio so you can read the caption then watch them say the words :cool:

I had perfect hearing in both ears till i was 7 years old and after that i could hear good out of 1 ear whlie the other was profound deaf for about 12 years,only in past 10 years i have been really deaf but i have never and probaly will always consider myself to not be deaf even though i am

I think the author of this thread does not really know what they are talking about,the poll choices and their posts are evidence of this. C.I. surgery belongs in the improving quality of life catergory along with hip/knee reconstruction etc etc........... :pissed:

Not knowing what a c.i. sounds like or being able to try one without having surgery made making the decision to get one really hard.

ha ha ! ,yeah i forgot about that one,my dad has to close all the windows in the house so he can't hear anything when he goes to bed,otherwise the sound of cars will keep him awake, i don't have that problem !! :dance2:

Ok i don't know if this thread has been done before .How can you use your deafness to an advantage or as a way of getting things or getting out of them ? A couple off the top of my head-Getting out of talking/communicating to people who you don't want to talk to , not having to listen to sounds...

In this whole c.i. or not debate there are too many extremists that is for sure, in both the for and against camps

That the problem with being partly deaf-the rest of your hearing can go anytime.The hearing that i have left (in my left ear,c.i in right ear ) just keeps getting worse over the years and has been a factor in me deciding to go ahead with c.i. sooner than planned , as in it's much easier to get...

Hearagain ,that was well explained what you said before,helps me understand where you at a little better .I lost my hearing (well all of it in one ear anyway) when i was 7 years of age before then eveything was normal, i can still remember what perfect hearing was like

hear again ,learning how to function as a sighted person would be nothing compared to what you gained with vision and if you think getting a c.i. was a liberating experience i'd think that sight regained would be equal at least.Me myself i'd rather be deaf than blind anyday.Sorry if my opinion...
