    "In-between"

Sorry Bottesini... I think I miss-said what I meant (or misinterpreted what was said previously)... NO, they didn't say that it was hard to deal with the sound but that is the only way my brain could think at the moment to put what I was thinking... I really meant that it appears to be...

Maybe it is just a stage she is going through (although my oldest didn't really do this, but I know each kid is different too). I don't quite think it is thought because she didn't do this until we started noticing that she had a problem with her hearing.

I'm actually glad you guys brought up how hard it is to deal with sound without your hearing aids. I just posted in the parents section asking for ideas on how to help her deal with sounds when out in public. It seems that since she has been exhibiting signs of not being able to hear well it...

    My Nerves Are SHOT!

So, I would love to hear some suggestions from other parents of deaf/hard of hearing kids on how you handle taking them in public. Ever since my 3 year old daughter started showing signs of hearing loss it has been HELL most of the time to take her places in public. She seems to do ok at first...

    Baby swallowed hearing aid battery!

I know that must be a scary experience. I think you did the right thing by taking him to the ER with you so he could understand the reason for having an adult help him with his hearing aids when there are issues with them- a lot of times kids have to see the reasons for things and not just be...

    "In-between"

Thank you all so much for the responses- they have really helped me understand things a bit better (especially your post, Deanne :ty:). I think you have also helped me strengthen my resolve to do my hardest to get her into FSDB instead of just settling with mainstreamed schools (at least until...

Guess I will just have to learn a different type of advocacy now  (I work as a victim's advocate, so I know a little something about advocating for people). Thanks for the feedback. Guess I just need to learn all I can about this so I can do my best advocating... Any suggestions on...

    "In-between"

:ty: for the feedback... I guess I didn't really know how to throw my thoughts out there on this one, but you helped clarify it better. I know there IS a middle road, I guess I am just confused as to what that would be. I guess the middle road would be giving her ALL the tools (speech classes...

    "In-between"

MCB- I definitely agree that it is easier to think in black and white. I am usually a shades of grey person, I can see possibilities and look into things through thinking and research... A situation like this though, I don't really know what that "grey" area means... What school is the best...

    "In-between"

I don't really know where to begin. I have posted a few times about my 3 year old daughter and her sudden (or seemingly sudden) hearing loss this past December. You can find those posts in the "parents" section if you like. I am posting this question/rant/what-have-you in this section because...

What should I know about hearing aids?

I have heard many times on here that hearing aids don't "correct" it like glasses do for eyesight. What I understand of that is that it is really just amplifying the sound (like turning up the volume on something). Is that correct? Is there anywhere online that I can find a "simulation" of...

What should I know about hearing aids?

I had definitely thought about letting her pick her colors :). I think if you have a hand in the choice of something, then you will be more likely to enjoy it :). And I don't plan on forcing the aids on her for long periods of time- I'm mostly concerned that she won't even want to try them at...

The Horrible Grapevine of Peter Gabriel

What should I know about hearing aids?

Today we finally got some answers about our 3 year old's hearing loss. She has a definite hearing loss that begins around 40db at the lowest hz and drops to about 70-80db in the highest hz. The audiologist said that they will be fitting her for hearing aids and so I was just wondering if...

    ABR Results Today!!

Well, today was the day and we took our 3 year old daughter to the hospital for her sedated ABR. I did not get a copy of the audiogram but I have a pretty good memory of what it consisted of. Basically, though, they did confirm that she has a hearing loss. She is obviously not hearing voices...

    Tomorrow's the day!

Thanks again for all the thoughts- I am going to go ahead and make a different thread in the parent's forum posting our results from today. They did confirm that she has a hearing loss and we will be getting her fitted for hearing aides soon but I'll put more detail in that post. Thanks!!

    Tattoos?

I have two tattoos. One I got right after I turned 18- it is just a rose and monarch butterfly on my right shoulder. The picture itself doesn't have much meaning (although I love roses and butterflies) but the reason I got it does (I was a cutter in high school and got it one day when I was...

    Tomorrow's the day!

Oh, and Grummer- that picture made me laugh :). I have never been a big "holiday" person (especially V-day and similar holidays) and when they told me the next appointment they had was for the 14th I said, "eh, it doesn't matter, just another day to me". :)

    Tomorrow's the day!

deafdyke- We will definitely be having dinner out somewhere :), we probably won't be able to leave the hospital until 4 or 5 because the test is supposed to start at 1. And thanks everyone for the support! I will be so glad when tomorrow is over, I feel like I have been waiting a year for...

    Tomorrow's the day!

Just wanted to ask for positive thoughts and vibes for my daughter tomorrow while she undergoes her sedated ABR test. I am relieved that we will finally have concrete answers and can then begin to figure out which direction we need to go in since we have no idea at all what her hearing loss is...
