hearies attempting to assimiliate into Deaf culture

you should also be learning that nonverbal communication is largely unconscious, so why are you blaming this guy for unconsciously doing things that you normally associate with dhh? Communication needs a sender and a receiver, and you MUST take into account that your own bias might be creating...

    Hearing in a Deaf world

"tit for tat" means whatever *I* have done, you do back to *ME* .. if you're walking down the street and someone punches you, you can't hit some other random person and claim it's "tit for tat", you're just as guilty as the person who did it to you. Likewise, you have no right to blame ME for...

    Hearing in a Deaf world

I guess I'm just feeling frustration because I really love using sign language, when I'm lucky enough to go for extended periods of time just signing and I eventually have to switch over to speaking again, I feel like I'm downshifting gears. I feel like a person hasn't really met me until...

hearies attempting to assimiliate into Deaf culture

I'm not seeing anything that leads me to believe that he was pretending to be deaf, all I'm seeing is your prejudice.

    Hearing in a Deaf world

Interesting. Like I said, I wasn't sure about crossover lines, I was just going off initial observations. The way you have presented it makes more sense

    Hearing in a Deaf world

Honestly, I'm not worried about acceptance, I think it's similar to when white people get accepted into black culture and the n-word is still off-limits. I understand that and I accept that. I understand why it's not cool for hearing people to invent new signs and such, but Deaf culture has an...
