    A year that was 2009

I am still working, I wake up every morning (alive), and I have met an amazing new community because of losing my hearing. A pretty good year, I think.

    Sorry If I pry

I guess I have other things to do with my time than keep changing my avatar. It's unique on AD and hopefully somewhat recognizable. And Jiro, I like your avatar. It fits you. =D I do enjoy seeing how creative other people are with their avatars.

Chaz Bono: (Son of Cher) I love being a man

It's nice that the GLBT community has such recognizable "role models" and spokespersons, even if unwillingly so. I feel badly that by virtue of famous parents, Chaz' entire life is under media scrutiny.

Deafness; Re - Invisible Handicap vs Visible Handicap

Definitely frustrating. My speech clarity is changing, and I've noticed that people's first impression of me may be off now as well. Deaf, wheelchair, imperfect speech, must be cognitively impaired too. I try to educate people that it takes a lot more "smarts" to speak when you can't hear...

Private doctor refuse pay for a interpreter!

True, but there's also a loophole for undue hardship to the physician or practice. Fortunately I've not personally experienced it, but did get a little resistance from an eye specialist in solo practice.

    The Naida saga continues...

Hi, DD. Yes, took a break from AD for a time, too many personal health issues to deal with. No, I'm not really interested in a CI, at least right now. I think it's a great technology for some, but not for me. And my worse ear may be more vibration than sound perception. It's pretty...

    The Naida saga continues...

Thanks, Bott. :ty: I've met some really supportive people through ALDA (Association of Late Deafened Adults) who feel the same as I do. I think it just takes a longer time for some people to come to that understanding...and some never will.

Facebook Status that you have seen.

I like to post irony, sarcasm, or words of wisdom rather than personal drivel. My current status says: "We could learn a lot from crayons: Some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors, but they all exist very nicely in the same box."

    Anyone to answer these questions?

We should do that with the answers..."stock" replies, same to every student :naughty:

Well done, Alicia. People need to be accountable for their actions. Good for you for speaking up. :thumb:

    The Naida saga continues...

I have had my Naidas for just over a year. Twice the left one has gone "dead" when it is touched or tapped, requiring me to open and close the battery cover to get it to turn on. Phonak tried once to fix it, then replaced it last Spring. Well, now my right one is doing the same thing. Saw my...

Deafness; Re - Invisible Handicap vs Visible Handicap

Getting back to the OPs question, I have a unique perspective. I had a serious heart defect from birth which limited my endurance, ability to walk distances, ride bikes, and do the other things typical kids do. It was frustrating to have other kids (and some adults) make comments like "lazy"...
