Can't hear, can't sign either - social outcast!

I am late deafened, still learning ASL, and I'm a power wheelchair user. I'm quadriplegic so my hands are partially paralyzed and a bit contracted. I've been going to every Deaf event I can find, and socializing with Deaf, students, terps, etc. It's helped my signing immensely, and I've been...

    General Deaf Audience

:gpost: Remember too that certification means a person has been tested to meet certain minimum standards. I'm sure we've all worked with wonderful terps who are not (yet) certified, and others who make us wonder how they ever passed the test...!

DVD says CC, but does not have Closed Captioning

I believe the distinction is that subtitles are just the words in English. Closed captioning includes explanations of all sounds like doors creaking, cars crashing, sighs, and other non-dialogue audio. Subtitles are for hearing and Deaf; CC is specifically for D/hoh.

    How long do moulds last?

The material contributes a lot to how often your molds may need to be changed. Hard molds, which are more commonly used in milder degrees of loss, are less subject to aging. They tend to last longer. If your molds are made of one of the soft materials they may need to be replaced every year...

    What's your favorite sign?

Oh, and two of my favorite signs are the signs for tortoise and for turtle. They don't have ears, so I guess they're honorary ADers too!

    What's your favorite sign?

OK, here goes. The High Priests (Kohanim) are descended from Moses' brother Aaron. In order to be a Kohan (Cohen, Katz, and all similar names), you need to be the son of a Kohan, and also be pure of mind and spirit. One of the scourges of Biblical times was leprosy. Before leprosy is evident...

    What's your favorite sign?

Actually, Botts, the Vulcan handshape for "live long and prosper" was borrowed by Leonard Nimoy from an ancient Jewish handshape. This was used by the high priests as a blessing over the people. There is a medical correlation as to why this is used, but I'd hate to bore people.

Old ASL signs vs New signs

Yes, and when I use the expression "like a broken record" people look at me like I have 2 heads. *sigh* I am old.

Old ASL signs vs New signs

True, but even the English words for these items have evolved. Such is the nature of a living language. Who still says "ice box", "rain bonnet", "moving pictures" or "victrola"? Yet most people will recognize these as refrigerator, hat, movie, or turntable (record player). BTW, laudenum...
